Your Opportunity at Michels Canada
The Senior Project Technical Engineer is responsible for both constructing a project and administratively managing the design efforts of Michel’s technical consultants. In addition, they will manage content of the technical submissions to the Owner. Primary focus will be on managing the design-build efforts, or the limited construction design efforts for Michels Canada Infrastructure projects.
As the Senior Project Technical Engineer, you know the project better then anyone! You will be key in providing technical support across all groups such as project manager, field operations, and engineering teams. You will be able to provide major guidance on project planning, scheduling, and ensuring our quality is top notch!
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
Stick handle all design efforts for both permanent and temporary works that have been produced by engineering consultants, vendors, and subcontractors working on our projects!
Assist with management and development of project staff. This includes interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Ensure timely delivery of project technical and non-technical submittals.
Track material, production, and project costs and provide documentation as needed.
Assist with client and regulatory correspondence and reporting including environmental, QA/QC, safety reports and daily reports.
Develop and/or refine the means and methods for key phases of the project with the superintendent.
Establish the baseline project schedule and maintain monthly updates.
Produce work packages and plans as well as participate in estimating, takeoffs, sub and material procurement etc. to successfully execute the work.
Interact with designers and customer representatives on issues related to the project.
Identify and track changes and participate in change negotiations according to division and company policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance.
Other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Bachelor’s Degree or 5-7 years of related project engineering experience working on the construction of underground infrastructure.
Registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist
Proven skillsets in areas such as leadership, planning, organization and delegation
Ability to read and interpret relevant technical drawings, blueprints and documents
Proficiency with AutoCAD (or other 2D/3D drafting software), P6 and MS Excel, Word, Project.
Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with field personnel and senior leadership.
Dedicated commitment to Safety, Quality and Integrity and leads by example to project team members.
