What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• ensure compliance with the Land Transfer Tax Act (LTTA) by reviewing documents related to registered and unregistered real estate transactions
• provide interpretations of the LTTA and the Electricity Act to taxpayers, their solicitors, accountants and other private sector agencies
• perform audits by identifying areas of potential non-compliance, and reviewing and analyzing tax returns and all other relevant documents for evidence of tax slippage
• review tax returns and related documents required by the LTTA
• submit requests for documents and respond to specific inquiries from solicitors, their staff and clients
• maintain accurate records of electronic and paper documents

How do I qualify?

Analytical, Research and Judgement Skills

• You have analytical, judgement and research skills to interpret and apply legislation in the evaluation of agreements, returns, and schedules and other documents prepared by taxpayers when completing real estate transactions.
• You have demonstrated experience applying judgement to make decisions and recommendations.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• You have knowledge of, or the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of, relevant legislation and federal legislation (e.g. LTTA, Income Tax Act, Electricity Act, etc.) to make tax determinations and respond to enquiries.
• You have knowledge of accounting principles and practices and auditing techniques.

Communication, Interpersonal and Organizational Skills

• You have interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to communicate with taxpayers and their representatives, explaining the application of legislation and encouraging voluntary compliance.
• You have organizational skills to compile manuals for internal and external use and to develop, organize and present training seminars.
