What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• Develop and deliver programming inside the provincial park as well as in communities and schools outside the park including First Nation Communities as part of the parks Education Outreach Program.
• Participate in the planning and coordination of the First Nations Education Outreach Program on an ongoing basis by assisting in identifying program priorities, determining objectives, coordinating resources and contacting teachers, school board representatives, elders and community representatives.
• Assist with working with First Nations contacts regarding interpretation and information sharing in relation to First Nations, especially in the context of Education Outreach programming.
• Assist with other park and provincial initiatives related to the Ontario Parks Discovery Program.
• Assist other members of the park team during peak workload periods.
• Assist in other ministry program areas as required by the supervisor.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must have a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s licence to travel to areas not accessible by public transit.
• You possess or have the ability to obtain a CPR and Emergency First Aid certificate.

The position requires the ability to:

• work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule.
• work in inclement weather.
• travel extended distances by vehicle to support programming.

Specialized Knowledge:

• You have local knowledge of First Nations history and culture.
• You have knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Ontario including resource protection principles and procedures as they apply to provincial parks.
• You have knowledge of standard ecological principles, theories and procedures.
• You have knowledge of relevant acts, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines including Provincial Parks and Conversation Reserves Act and, Provincial Park Policies and Procedures.
• You have knowledge of educational curriculum, interpretive principles, techniques and common practice to develop learning and outreach programs.
• You have knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Communication, Customer Service, and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have strong communication and presentation skills to communicate to staff and a variety of audiences.
• You have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate with children of all ages, stakeholders, First Nation Communities and elders, special interest groups and park visitors.

Leadership Skills:

• You have leadership skills to deliver training to staff.

Organizational and Planning Skills:

• You have organizational and planning skills to support programming and curriculum development.
• You have time management skills to ensure responsibilities and priorities are met.
• You are able to work independently as well as in a team.

Computer Skills:

• You have knowledge and skills in operating word processing, spreadsheet, database, design and presentation software and the internet.

• Effective, January 1st, 2023 the correct salary range for this position will be $23.95 to $26.68 per hour in compliance with OPSEU collective agreement provisions.
