Camp Coordinator

Mohawk College is currently recruiting for a Camp Coordinator, Summer Camp.

This position will report to the Manager, Conference and Theatre Services, and will be responsible for providing extensive experience in outdoor educational activities, and possess excellent organization, communication and problem-solving skills. The Camp Coordinator is the lead responsible for the overall programming of Summer Camp including coordinating the day-to-day operations of the 8-week program, ensuring effective parent relations, directing staff, and the overall safety and enjoyment of campers participating in camp.

Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Camp Planning, Supervision & Management

• Work as an integral member of the summer camp leadership team.
• Assist in the recruitment and hiring of summer camp staff.
• Prepare and manage all onboarding documents, staff lists, and training dates in accordance with the Manager.
• Work with the camp team on staff scheduling issues, helping to source fill-ins when additional staff are required.
• Ability to observe camper and staff behaviour and apply appropriate behaviour-support techniques, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and lead emergency procedures.
• Helps design and deliver imaginative and age appropriate day to day programming for the camp.
• Develops routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation.
• Plans, prepares, and executes a variety of fun, developmentally appropriate activities/experiences each day.
• Takes a proactive, problem-solving approach to improve our current policies, procedures, and program delivery to maximize our impact.
• Administrative tasks and documentation related to programs and services
• Orders food, supplies, and equipment, and arrange for proper distribution.
• Actively promote day-to-day camp activities to the Summer Camp social media pages.
• Establish positive relationships with campers, fellow employees, and guests.
• Organize and maintain camp equipment.
• Ensure that camp procedures and safety standards are being followed and upheld.
• Be actively involved in ensuring quality delivery of our camper’s programs.
• Participate in ensuring friendly, caring and safe camp environments.
• Fill in for the Head Counsellors during absences as needed.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with the team and dealing with issues or concerns raised by them in an effective and timely manner.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Parent Partnership

• Assists Manager with responding to customer complaints in a timely and professional manner, always aiming to provide solutions that ensure resolution.
• Present at all times of daily sign-in and out for parent communication.
• Always willing to go the extra mile to engage customers and provide an excellent customer experience.
• Proactively engage with parents and children on-site, and establish positive relationships by maintaining open communication.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

• Current Post-Secondary student pursuing a degree/diploma in Concurrent Education, Recreational Leadership, Early Childhood Education, Child & Youth Studies, Nursing or related field.
• Standard First Aid with CPR Level ‘C’ (Required).
• Vulnerable Sector Check – VS Checks are to be obtained from the Municipality in which you permanently reside at your own expense. Please check your local Police Services website to confirm what identification is required, cost and payment method. Upon an offer you must provide an original VS Check as indicated above with a “Date of Search” of less than sixty (60) days from hire date. VS Checks greater than sixty (60) days will not be accepted.
• Experience working with children ages 4-12 in a camp or educational context.
• Hands on experience with children’s programs/summer camps or in coaching, teaching, instructing children ages 4 to 12 years old.
• Supervisory experience managing summer camps and/or teams of leaders/instructors.
• Experience working with children with exceptionalities.
• Experience with parent communication in a professional setting.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) for document creation and data entry.
• Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, and staff.
• Lead by example; be a role model for campers and staff.
• A spirit of patience, positivity, compassion and fun!
• Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
• Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
