Role Summary
This position performs all aspects of Meaford Hall’s commercial box office
operations, including related financial and administrative duties in compliance with
approved policies and procedures, providing customer service and sales assistance,
assisting with events as needed and other administrative duties as assigned.
Role Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform box office operation duties that include but not limited to:
a) Assist with the set up performances and events in ticketing system;
b) Process public ticket sales, exchanges and refunds, and safe handling of
cash;
c) Provide information on performances, directions, parking, restaurants,
etc. via phone, email, or counter enquiries and messages;
d) Market and transact single tickets, subscription tickets, group order sales,
etc. via phone, email, mail orders, counter purchases;
e) Perform end of shift reconciliation, bank deposits and necessary posting
and reporting;
f) Create and maintain up to date event information on-line and in box office
and lobby areas;
g) Lock/unlock the building on performance/non-performance days;
h) Provide instruction, guidance and support to new box office staff;
i) Liaise with other theatre personnel
2. Assist with the posting of marketing and promotional materials on regional
websites and LED Highway Sign;
3. Perform furniture and hospitality setup and tear downs for rental clients as
well as ensuring the rental space is clean for clients;
4. Ensure exterior entrances and fire routes are kept cleared and salted during
opening hours as required;
5. Assist during performances and events with hospitality services, bartending,
merchandise sales as required;
6. Assist in training new theatre staff members and volunteers;
7. Provide support for the Visitor Information Centre including stocking of
materials and brochures, attending Brochure Swaps and training;
8. Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
General Duties and Accountabilities
1. Provides and maintains a high degree of confidentiality and security of
information at all times.
2. Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department and
corporate objectives.
3. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other
applicable legislation, department policies/procedures/practices, operational
guidelines, and perform safe work practices.
Required Certifications and/or Health and Safety Requirements
1. Possess or willing to obtain Smart Serve certification.
Education, Skills and Experience
1. OSSD plus business related courses;
2. Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office applications;
3. Working knowledge of a Theatre/Performance venue environment is an
asset;
4. Excellent communication (written, oral and interpersonal), organizational,
public relations and customer service and time management skills;
5. Cash handling and day end processing experience an asset;
6. Ability to lift up to approximately 50 lbs; i.e.: cases of liquor, tables and
chairs;
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality, strong listening skills to capture relevant
information and be tactful in dealing with the public;
8. Ability to work days, evenings and weekends, based on event schedule.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
standing and walking and some shovelling, sweeping and lifting of up to 50
lbs. Work is conducted in an open office environment with some exposure to
criticism from the public.
Required to work hours outside of the regular operating hours (8:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday). Evening and weekend shifts will occur as
required with each event or production.
