Senior Administrative Officer Transportation & Public Works, Water and Sewer
Purpose of the Position
To ensure smooth operations of the Municipality programs related to Water and Sewage services, Garbage Collection services, Heavy Equipment operations, Airport Service Contract operations, Building Maintenance, and Construction operations when applicable.
Water & Sewer Operations
Creates, reviews, and adjusts the delivery schedule for water and sewage services, ensuring as well as he or she is able for the adequate and equitable supply to housing and business units.
Ensures water testing is conducted and submitted according to regulations and recommendations of the Nunavut Water Board.
Oversees water treatment plant processes.
Oversees the safe use and storage of water and sewage trucks.
Maintains records of truck drivers, including their licences.
Maintains and uses a casuals list of drivers and assistants.
Schedules staff adequate to perform the delivery schedule.
Garbage Collection and Landfill Operations
Oversees the garbage collection schedule.
Maintains truck driver information, including licence.
Maintains casual list for driver and assistant.
Schedules staff to perform the schedule.
Plans and oversees the segregation of materials at the land fill.
Plans and oversees periodic burning operations.
Heavy Equipment Operations
Strong familiarity with all Heavy Equipment within the community, including its expected service life, recommended use, and limitations.
Oversees the snow removal, repairs and maintenance of all public roads within the community, as well as the water and sewage access points for all buildings.
Oversees runway maintenance.
Ensures Heavy Equipment receives regular preventative maintenance.
Predicts project costs and labour estimates.
Building Maintenance
Oversees building maintenance of all Hamlet buildings and structures.
Other Factors
One of the primary members of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, as well as heavily involved and responsive to directives from the Workers Safety and Compensation Commission, Office of the Fire Marshall, Health Inspector, or other regulatory people and organizations.
Ensures safe work-practices and environments.
Ensures adequate training is provided for new staff for their position.
Attends Management Meetings for matters related, but not limited to:
Capital planning
Personnel reviews
Project reporting and assessment
Community needs-assessments

Moderate to strong Human Resource Management skills.
Moderate organizational skills.

Strong supervisory skills.
Strong ability to discuss and develop plans and proposals in collaboration with others.
Core Knowledge
Basic familiarity with the Labor Standards Act of Nunavut.
Moderate familiarity with the Union Agreement of the Municipality of Sanikiluaq.
Knowledge of and contacts with: Workers Safety and Compensation Commission, Office of the Fire Marshall, Health Inspector, Nunavut Water Board.
Word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
Basic budgeting and monitoring.
Inventory controls and processes.

Moderate public relations and customer service skills.

Other safety training
Heavy Equipment Mechanic background.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 24 months
Salary: $95,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
