Muslim Welfare Canada Looking for Intake Worker (Food Bank ) at Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Full Time

We are looking for an Intake Worker to join our Food Bank teams! This individual must be eager, motivated, and organized!

Responsibilities

• Initiate the intake process by completing the required forms and determining the level of urgency.

·       Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.

·       Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of the food bank area

·       Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.

·       Receive phone calls for food bank intake.

·       Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.

·       Assist with pick-up and delivery of food and donations from/to donors and clients using program

vehicles.

·       Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.

• Handle incoming calls and requests for service to the program. Initiate the intake process by completing the required forms and determining the level of urgency.

·       General verbal and written communication.

– Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Community service worker or social service worker diploma from a community college

Minimum 2 years of community services-related education and experience in a related field,-

An awareness and understanding of poverty and homelessness-related issues,

– Understanding of advocacy, Provincial, and Federal income support programs, and tenancy as an asset,

– Excellent interpersonal communication skills including public relations, oral and written skills,

– Exercise good judgment, sensitivity to a diverse client base, and ability to deal tactfully with sensitive client issues; strong sense of social justice and a strong desire to assist and improve the lives of marginalized people,

– Self-motivated with well-developed planning, organizing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills,

– Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment– includes contributing cooperatively to the teamwork environment and upholding the professional code of ethics,

– Excellent administrative skills including the operation of multi-line switchboard, computer, and office equipment. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects,

– Fluency in a second language an asset,

– Criminal Record check required.
