Trafigura Group has an immediate need for a qualified Finance & Supply Chain Manager at its Myra Falls Mine on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Myra Falls Mine is an underground mine operation located 90 km southwest of Campbell River, BC in the picturesque surroundings of Strathcona Provincial Park. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, the trip to the mine has some of the world’s most impressive views.
This is an onsite position and daily travel between the Campbell River/Courtenay area and the mine site is required. Bus transportation is provided. Trafigura Mining Group manages mining operations, develops projects, conducts technical audits of existing and potential projects and provides advisory and support services to the rest of the company. Its main operations are in the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America. The Group operates the Catalina Huanca mine in Peru and is active in Brazil and Cuba.
In 2020, Trafigura Mining Group acquired Myra Falls Mine from leading global zinc and lead producer Nyrstar. The underground mine is situated in Strathcona Provincial Park, 90kms southwest of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, has been operational since 1965 and employs over 300 people. The Mining Group is ramping up production at the facility to over 800,000 metric tonnes of zinc, lead and copper ore per annum, all of which are key commodities in the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
The Role
The Finance and Supply Chain Manager is responsible for developing and executing the life of mine and annual budget for the Myra Falls Mine Operation, ensuring both short- and long-term goals are accounted for and able to be executed. The Finance and Supply Chain Manager is instrumental acting as a key member of the Site Leadership Team and helping develop Myra Falls’ overall operational growth and strategic outlook. The Manager understands the commercial drivers of the business, analyzes data, and applies evidence to improve business efficiency at site.
The Finance and Supply Chain Manager is expected to have strong financial acumen and provide leadership oversight to warehousing, contracts, and the procurement teams. He/she will utilize their extensive experience and knowledge of mining operations to manage budgets and costs (including analysis and reporting). The Finance and Supply Chain Manager will interact regularly with the Trafigura corporate finance team and other commercial teams.
The role requires a professional who enjoys opportunities for innovation and leadership and has the ability to manage multiple tasks and in a fast-paced environment. Accuracy and attention to detail is extremely important in this role.
Strategic Leadership
· Participate as a member of the Senior and Executive Leadership Teams in contributing to the overall strategy.
· Contribute to the achievement of the organization’s objectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategy, identifying and analyzing potential issues that could negatively impact the organization.
· Develop and control the organization’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and financial and statutory regulations complied with.
Key Responsibilities:
· Safe and effective management oversight through leadership of the site commercial teams (Accounting, Contracts, Procurement, Warehouse, and IT).
· Contributing as a key member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT) to the overall development of site strategy and operations, consistent with the Company’s vision
· Leading the preparation of the annual business plan and short-term forecasts.
· Ensuring coordination and collaboration within the Operations Department so that decisions are made consistent with site goals, while achieving optimal productivity and cost effectiveness
· Overseeing month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting processes.
· Leading monthly Operational Management Committee meetings and Forecast meetings.
· Preparing short-term and long-term cash forecasts.
· Analyzing costs to assist managers to see deviations from budget and opportunities for improved efficiencies or cost reductions.
· Identifying local supply chain development opportunities and developing cost effective sourcing strategies
· Acting as an internal advisor on contractual terms and conditions
· Advising the Company on efficient procurement strategies, tender documentation preparation, tender evaluation and providing contract negotiation support
· Successfully executing all capital projects in the Operations area
· Ensuring a realistic and achievable short-term plan (
· Reviewing, monitoring, and reporting on progress against strategic plans
· Identifying and resolving business risks and emerging issues, escalating where necessary
Qualifications & Requirements
· Senior management level experience, including full life-cycle accounting, and strong working knowledge of IFRS
· Experience working in multi-company, multi-project and multi-currency financial consolidation
· Demonstrated ability and experience in managing foreign exchange risk
· Proven skills in developing, implementing and monitoring financial systems, controls, policies and best practices while ensuring compliance with all regulators
· Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
· Demonstrated leadership, critical & strategic thinking, team-building and problem-solving skills
· Management experience in leading teams
· Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
· Experience in Mining or Heavy Industry desirable
· Working knowledge of SAP is highly desirable
· Willingness to relocate to the Campbell River/Courtenay area
· Consent to a pre-employment drug & alcohol screen
· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada or be eligible to obtain a work permit
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent business experience
Designation
· Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) or equivalent is required
