Line Technician
All candidates will go through either part-time or full-time Basic Military Qualification, as well as full-time Line Technician training at a Canadian Forces Training Centre.
Line Technicians provide reliable and robust communication networks through the use and creation of hard-line infrastructure. They are also part of a larger team that supports different Army units and the Canadian Armed Forces with communicaiton and information services throughout Canada and around the world. Line Technicians are often employed in headquarters to install bell drops and other command and signals requirements.
Line Technicians expertly install, remove, maintain, and repair communications infrastructure, such as:
- Interior structured cable systems, consisting of copper cables, fibre optic cables, and supporting infrastructure
- Integration of radio, satellite, and microwave broadband equipment and infrastructure into wired networks
- Servicing communications towers and antenna
- Fibre optic and copper cable distribution in support of infrastructure in field deployable command posts
- Operation and maintenance of a wide range of weapon systems, vehicle, survival gear, and personal defensive equipment
- Use of ruggedized equipment for field communication, navigation, and vehicle maneuvers
Minimum Requirements
You must meet the following minimum requirements for a career in the Army Reserves:
- 18 years of age (16 with parental consent while maintaining status as a full-time student)
- Canadian citizenship or Canadian Permanent Residency
- Completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10
