Title: Summer Reading for Fun Tutor – Youth Positions

Newfoundland and Labrador Laubach Literacy Council Inc. is looking for Tutors for its provincial Summer Reading for Fun Program (SRFF) sites. Summer Reading for Fun is a free program that helps school-age children learn to enjoy reading and writing through one-on-one tutoring sessions.

Terms of Employment: Temporary, Full Time, Week-days 8:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m.

Salary: $13:20 per hour for 35 hours per week for 7 weeks

Anticipated Start Date: July 4, 2022

Location: St. Albans/Milltown,

Program: Funding for this position under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative. To be eligible, youth must:

· be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;

· be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and

· have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Preference will be given to individuals who experience barriers to employment. Education and experience in program management, planning organizing and instruction to children/youth through paid or volunteer work is an asset.

All new employees are asked to provide a Certificate of Conduct within 2 weeks of commencement of employment.

Job Description

The tutor will:

· Assist site-coordinator with registration and recruitment of SRFF student participants

· Tutor school-aged children/youth in on-to-one and group sessions in writing, reading comprehension and math

· Work with site-coordinator and volunteer steering committee to ensure quality programming

· Organize and executive weekly group activities

· SRF site maintenance
