About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our passionate Engineering team. We are looking for a full-time Mechatronics Engineer. As a team member, you will further develop our acoustic sensor. This may involve mechanical design, 3D modelling, manufacturing custom parts, mechanical assembly, working with sensors and their acquisition units such as microphones, lasers, and ultrasonic transducers, and also circuit design and data analysis. We are looking for candidates who can take on tasks with no clear best solution and independently and open-mindedly create the solution. The candidate should also be ready to work in a fast-paced start-up environment which will include working independently and taking on responsibility.
Responsibilities
Design 3D models in SolidWorks based on weight, clearance, and material constraints.
3D print (FDM) and post-process the designed parts (sanding, painting).
Source and order raw materials and components.
Communicate with technical staff about design decisions.
Manufacture parts using power tools.
Assembly and testing of prototypes.
Additional responsibilities will vary based on experience, but could include:
Programming.
THT and SMD soldering.
Schematic capture and PCB layout.
Required Qualifications
BS/MS/Ph.D. in Mechatronic, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability).
Minimum 2 years of CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).
Minimum 1 year of experience in designing for 3D printing (FDM and/or MSLA).
Minimum 2 years of full-time/Co-op experience.
Previous experience designing, fabricating and testing mechatronic systems.
Rapid prototyping experience.
Comfortable using power and hand tools.
Proven troubleshooting skills.
Self-starter.
Willing to be based out of Victoria.
Willing to travel to fieldwork domestically and internationally, up to 25% of the time.
Nice-to-Haves:
Signal processing/instrumentation.
Embedded programming (C/C++ and Python).
PCB schematic capture / layout.
THT and SMD soldering.
Electrical troubleshooting.
Sound engineering.
Non-destructive testing.
Knowledge of concrete and ability to work with it.
