Reporting to the Director of International Admissions and Recruitment, the International Communications Officer is responsible for the creation, implementation and evaluation of the International Admissions and Recruitment strategic communications plan. This includes maintaining the international Undergraduate Admissions webpages; preparing multimedia presentation materials and digital assets for international recruitment presentations and events; capturing photo and video assets for use online, in publications, and at recruitment events; researching, designing and writing material for advertising, online promotion, agent and counsellor newsletters and publications; writing content for and sending targeted emails; publishing and monitoring content for the international admissions and recruitment social media; providing reports on social media and website analytics; coordinating the international student ambassador network; representing Carleton at online, on- and off-campus recruitment events; and performing other duties as required. The position requires collaboration and relationship building with colleagues and departments across the university. The incumbent ensures that communications materials are produced with the highest standards and convey consistent messaging, accuracy of information, quality of presentation and a common visual identity.
Qualifications
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills are required to prepare website information, newsletters, emails, print and multimedia presentations and social posts
▪ Web writing and design experience, proven ability to develop, implement and measure email campaigns, innovative communications and marketing plans
▪ An understanding of the university culture and environment
▪ Superior interpersonal and diplomacy skills, excellent intercultural communication skills
▪ Ability to plan at the macro level while remaining detail-oriented
▪ Working knowledge of various software such as CRM systems, PowerPoint, Canva and other presentation software, WordPress, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Fireworks, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, Google Docs, Sheets, Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel
▪ Ability to learn and keep up-to-date with new computer software and technology to produce websites and social media sites, electronic newsletters, merge databases, prepare multimedia presentations, and update information on the website
▪ Photography and video editing skills are an asset
▪ Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and work independently using good judgment
▪ English language fluency is required. Fluency in Mandarin, Arabic, French or other languages is a strong asset
▪ Ability to perform as an effective team member
Education And Experience
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
▪ A university Honours degree in journalism, communications, marketing, computer science, or a university degree and additional training in the field of public relations, multimedia design or social media (or equivalent).
▪ 5 years of related experience in higher education recruitment, international recruitment, or marketing and communications preferably in a post-secondary environment. Experience in developing written and online content and managing social media sites is important, as is experience in creating and maintaining websites and preparing multimedia presentations.
