DIGITAL LITERACY LIBRARIAN

Librarians play a key role in integrating library services into academic programs and the journeys of our learners.

Reporting to the Library Chair, the Digital Literacy Librarian supports students in becoming critical consumers and creators of digital information through developing and delivering a sustainable program of digital literacy to students across all disciplines. Shaping library approaches to digital pedagogy and guiding the integration of digital literacy into library curriculum and programming, the Digital Literacy Librarian delivers library instruction through multiple channels using a variety of approaches and methodologies. The Digital Literacy Librarian collaborates in the development and leading of targeted initiatives to enhance the digital and critical thinking skills of learners and provides academic support to learners 1:1 at the library desk or by appointment, and in the classroom through the delivery of course-integrated instruction.

How You’ll Make a Difference

• Collaborate with faculty, colleagues, and partners to increase the digital skills of learners, particularly the skills needed to learn, study, and research effectively in digital environments.
• Establish relationships with faculty, instructional designers, staff, and learners to deliver academic support, instruction, and services to students and faculty including
• Develop and implement innovative library initiatives to enhance the digital literacies of learners of various skill levels;
• Using appropriate pedagogies, design engaging instruction focused on the use of specific digital tools, resources, library technologies, multi-media, data visualization software, etc.;
• Stay current with digital information and communication trends; including ethical issues surrounding technology use, social media, AIs, and misinformation
• Provide liaison support to designated programs and/or service areas. Liaison responsibilities include consultation to select relevant resources, create customized research guides, deliver targeted library instruction, develop new services and initiatives, develop working relationships with faculty, attend departmental meetings, and establish open channels of communication with programs, departments, and service areas.
• Engage as a key member of the Library Instruction and Library Teams to fulfill strategic priorities and promote learner success.
• Participate in collection and resource development in consultation with academic programs, curriculum specialists, and the library collection team.
• Provide reference and research support services to learners including in-depth 1:1 assistance in multiple formats (i.e. chat, email, phone, desk/in-person, and online).
• Support Library Chair and Director, Student Services with ongoing design and implementation of initiatives to enhance the digital literacy of NorQuest Learners.

What You Bring

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Minimum 1 year experience in an academic library setting providing instruction and reference services.
• Strong knowledge existing and emerging technologies (library and non-library), immersive and multi-media technologies, and relevant digital applications.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with learners, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team member in a dynamic environment and on a variety of simultaneous projects.
• Demonstrated ability to adjust priorities in response to change, take initiative, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick effective decisions in a highly dynamic environment.

SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent and includes immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs. This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement Appendix A o utlines how pay is determined.

This role will require regular on-campus work at our Downtown Edmonton location.
