FIELD PLACEMENT INSTRUCTOR – TEACHING ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE
FACULTY OF SKILLS AND FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING
NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to leading from where they are to join our Language & Settlement Studies team as a Field Placement Instructor – Teaching English as an Additional Language (TEAL).
The course includes 30 hours of lecture in addition to supervision of students during the field placement portion, including classroom observations of the TEAL students who are completing a 50-hour placement. We are looking for an energetic, passionate, and innovative professional to join our team. The TEAL field placement instructor is responsible for delivering the course content using Blackboard, Ultra, and Moodle, uploading content to the course Moodle site, supporting and communicating with learners in a timely and professional manner, and keeping detailed observation records for each student. The role will also include corresponding with the mentor teachers. Experience with online delivery and teaching in adult English language classrooms is required. Course dates: January 9th – April 21st, 2023. Tuesday evenings, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The successful candidate must have flexibility during the daytime to observe TEAL students.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Provide instruction using the course curriculum and follow TESL Canada practicum guidelines.
- Offer evidence-based, supportive feedback to students.
- Grade using formative and summative assessment tools.
- Maintain accurate student records and assign final grades.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Master’s degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or Adult Education.
- TESL Canada Standard 1, 2, or 3 (or equivalent) certification.
- If your education was received internationally we recommend you obtain an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations.
WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER
As a difference maker you bring:
- Familiarity with the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA.
- Experience teaching English as a second/foreign language.
- Experience teaching in a post-secondary TESL/TEAL/TESOL program and supervising practicum students is an asset.
- Experience with online course delivery is an asset.
SALARY: Reflective upon what you bring. AKA your education and experience. This is a casual, 15-week appointment. and can be offered as an extension agreement for current NorQuest faculty.
This is a Faculty role therefore the pay range is quite large, the Faculty Association agreement outlines how pay is determined.
