LIBRARY SERVICES ASSISTANT – CASUAL EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS
ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTRE
NorQuesters are difference makers, and we’re seeking a dedicated individual to assist in our state-of-the-art library on a part-time, casual basis. The front desk of the library is the circulation hub, reserve collection and reference desk. Duties at the front desk include the provision of circulation services and student support, both face-to-face and through online activities. NorQuest library operates as a cohesive team, where each team member and their contributions are highly valued. Together we create a truly exceptional student experience.
We’re looking for some to work casual evenings and weekends – hours of work may vary between 8 hours and 12 hours per week. Our Library is an essential partner on the path to discovery, transformation, and lifelong learning. As subject matter experts, we work with students, faculty, and staff to achieve a common goal: learner success.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Provide circulation/client services and reference services evening and weekend hours. Reference interactions may be basic or complex and may be happen person, by telephone, by email, through live chat, and video platform
Library desk support including helping clients find, evaluate, and use information from a variety of formats at a variety of learning levels. Service is framed with an instructional/educational mindset, where every interaction is understood as a learning opportunity.
Shelve library materials as required.
Provide material processing as required.
Stay current on circulation procedures and reference practices.
Explain standard circulation policies to students who are just beginning to learn English.
Provide check-in, check-out services (circulation services). The circulation desk is also the information/reference desk. The following is involved in this task:
Understand and be able to articulate library policies as they pertain to the circulation of physical resources to students and NorQuest employees.
Understand and be able to articulate library policies as they pertain to the circulation and use of library resources within the NEOS consortium.
Understand library resources and guide students to the appropriate resource for their need: research guides, books, databases, streamed content, etc.
Assist students / employees F2F, telephone, live chat. You will assist students in locating resources, whether electronic or physical.
WHAT YOU BRING
Preference will be given to a current student in an MLIS or Library Technician program.
Some experience in a library and/or customer service setting.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

SALARY: $22.00 – $25.07 per hour reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a casual opportunity with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) and includes 11.2% in lieu of vacation.
