Reporting to the Manager, Financial Compliance and Corporate Sustainability, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the facilitation of the Company’s SOX process. They will work directly with business and control owners on the development, implementation and monitoring of a Company-wide risk management assessment designed to comply with regulatory requirements (notably Sarbanes-Oxley legislation “SOX”) and sound business practice requirements. Other areas of responsibility will include the preparation of as-needed accounting technical analysis to support the Finance department and assist with performing financial, operational and IT audits in accordance with the annual Internal Audit plan. As part of the internal audit work, the Senior Financial Analyst will execute audit procedures, draw conclusions, and communicate those conclusions to various groups, as required. Additionally, the Senior Financial Analyst will assist with the Company’s annual ESG reporting including development of policies, controls, and procedures over ESG data as well as ongoing data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the Company’s SOX compliance and reporting process to comply with regulatory requirements (notably Sarbanes-Oxley legislation) and sound business practice.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the Company’s Internal Control tracking, testing, and reporting software and oversight of all documentation updates, control testing and control issue action plans.
- Oversee the timely completion of quarterly and annual assessments of internal controls (including scheduled testing of controls), remediation of audit comments and internal control weaknesses.
- Remain current in the technical understanding of the requirements and reporting for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
- Provide quarterly and annual internal control integrity reporting to senior management.

Work with all business process owners to develop, document, implement, monitor and report internal controls designed to mitigate Company-wide risk (as defined by the Company’s framework of key risks and mitigating controls).
- Ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of business process and internal control documentation and make recommendations to management for improvements to the control environment to eliminate or minimize business risks.
- Lead the Company’s fraud risk and financial risk assessments and develop reporting to be presented to senior management and the audit committee.
- Support the execution of the internal audit process.
- Perform financial, operational and IT audits including assessment of internal controls, with particular focus on internal controls over financial reporting.

Technical accounting analysis in support of the finance department or training.
- Collaborate with internal groups and monitor business activities to ensure timely identification of accounting and financial reporting matters and recommend practical solutions associated with contemplated business transactions.
- Interpret accounting pronouncements and bulletins, research technical accounting applications for complex business transactions and other ad hoc technical analysis.
- Collate and communicate findings through position papers and other formal written communication methods.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics or Business Administration related to Finance and Accounting.
- Within degree education or supplemental to, courses related to risk assessment and controls auditing preferred.
- Designated in Canadian accounting program (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) required.
- Five years’ experience in an Accounting, Finance and/or SOX-compliant business environment.
- Highly organized and detail oriented to track results.
- Strong understanding of business risks, internal controls and interdependencies within an end-to-end control environment.
- A strong working knowledge and understanding of information systems and control environments used for control monitoring, control activities and auditing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (creative and innovative).
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint etc.) with a strong knowledge of Excel and Visio.
