Position Summary
Under the direction of the Teaching Kitchen Supervisor, the Food Services Cashier is responsible for providing assistance with various aspects of the cafeteria operations including cash register operations, product availability and quality control, and assisting the Teaching Kitchen Supervisor as required. The Food Services Cashier is aware of the Mission and Values of North Island College and demonstrates these values in everyday practice.
Position Competencies
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provides food, beverage and customer service to Cafeteria customers, including students, college staff and the general public; and provides relevant information to the Teaching Kitchen Supervisor, as required.
2. Operates equipment such as cash register, POS system, credit and debit machines, computer, calculator, and photocopiers.
3. Monitors the cafeteria for cleanliness, orderly conduct and general maintenance.
4. Ensures order, cleanliness and safe practices in the servery.
5. Provides the general receiving of goods and ensures HACCP standards are met.
6. Performs dishwasher duties.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Teaching Kitchen Supervisor.
Required Education & Experience
1. Grade 12 graduation or equivalent education.
2. Must possess a FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate.
3. 1 Year related cashier experience in the food and beverage industry, including related training or experience using POS systems.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills including the ability to establish rapport with students and other clientele and to deal with different personalities and behaviours.
Ability to respond to multiple demands within a high stress environment and to work well under pressure.
Understanding of the requirements of a safe physical working environment.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job which include heavy lifting and being on foot the full shift.
