Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Future Students, the Student Recruiter will provide recruitment services on behalf of North Island College in a variety of educational and public settings across British Columbia, with a particular emphasis on Vancouver Island and the North Island College Region. As a critical link in establishing educational opportunities at North Island College, the Student Recruiter will develop relationships with students, parents, counsellors, career counsellors, coordinators, teachers and community partners in order to assist prospective student audiences in the development of education and career planning towards achieving their academic and career goals. The Student Recruiter will represent NIC and will communicate information to the broadest audience regarding programs, admission requirements, registration information, courses, awards and financial aid, and the services at North Island College.
The Student Recruiter is aware of the mission and values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in everything they do. They also coordinate and facilitate a variety of campus recruitment events such as group tours, calling campaigns, mail outs, electronic communications, information nights and supports the college’s open house events.
Position Competencies
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Connects broadly with prospective student audiences and key influencers (family members, school counselors, teachers, education offices, community organizations and members) to build strong relationships and to promote NIC brand and learning opportunities.
2. Responsible for recruitment visits to secondary schools, funding agencies, education/career fairs, community organizations and other sites across Vancouver Island and beyond highlighting application and admission processes. Follows up to on-line, telephone and in-person inquiries from prospective students (passing them to the appropriate NIC contact)
3. Represents NIC at events, fairs and functions across Vancouver Island, mainland and beyond as determined by annual marketing & recruitment planning.
4. Liaises with secondary school students, counsellors, career centre coordinators, and other school officials to coordinate the NIC School visit program.
5. Works collaboratively with other post-secondary institutions to improve student recruitment activities and maintain relationships with other schools (promoting transfer options and pathway agreements).
6. Will represent all Campuses, Centres, and Departments at North Island College and will be required to travel on a regular basis. This includes overnight travel involving multi-night stays.
7. Presenting to the broadest possible audience regarding NIC’s programs, services, financial aid, and educational/training opportunities.
8. Plan, develop and participate in outreach programs which may include special market segments, in specifically assigned territories. This includes supporting and liaising with Indigenous Navigators.
9. Coordinates on site campus visits (recruitment) such as campus tours, open houses and community-based information events.
10. Assists in the Coordinating of Campus Life Ambassadors in partnership with Student Life and OGE
11. Consulting with NIC divisions, departments, faculty, staff and students.
12. Planning, developing and implementing recruitment initiatives including information sessions.
13. Participating on a number of College committees.
14. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to current Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy regulations.
15. Presents post-secondary and NIC admissions information to groups of various sizes, including Planning 10 high school classes throughout the region.
16. Supports the Manager, Marketing & Future Students, in developing an annual plan to meet yearly recruitment and conversion goals that align with the Enrolment Planning process. This includes collaboration with the marketing team and other college units.
17. Collaborates with project team (Marketing & Future Students writers & designers) in the development of NIC recruitment materials, ensuring to also consult with deans and department chairs as part of this process. These materials must target audiences as determined by annual marketing & recruitment plans and priorities.
18. Evaluates the outcomes of outreach and recruitment related activities to make recommendations for improvements to the Manager, Marketing & Future Students.
19. Presents to a wide variety of groups as part of community outreach and recruiting initiatives to better inform prospective students of what NIC has to offer them educationally.
20. Required to cultivate relationships with prospective students and liaise with appropriate College departments as needed.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager, Marketing & Future Students.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and collaboratively across departments to work as part of a cohesive team
2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network and build relationships.
3. Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a detailed-oriented and individualized approach. This includes the ability to communicate to culturally and socially diverse audiences.
4. Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to engage audiences of various sizes.
5. Excellent organization, time management, interpersonal, customer service and project management skills, as well as the ability and desire to work closely with both internal and external community groups.
6. Strong understanding of the BC Secondary and Post-secondary Education systems, including familiarity with K-12 academic and philosophical changes
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked team environment.
8. Intermediate level of knowledge of office software, technology based communications, student record databases. Familiarity with colleague is an asset.
9. Able to work flexible hours with some long work days, weekend work and able to travel for several weeks at a time throughout the year.
10. Possess a valid BC driver’s license.
