We are currently seeking an Operations Technician to work at our Corunna Site in the Material Flow/Emergency Response area.
The primary focus of an Operations Technician will encompass safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the facility on a continuous basis. The Operations Technician is expected to advance to the top of the progression program.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
To carry out tasks as set out in the job descriptions for the assigned area of responsibility
To operate the assigned area of the unit in a safe, efficient, cost-effective manner, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot operating problems
Ensure NOVA’s safe work practices and policies are maintained at all times
Operate the DCS of the process and associated equipment
Review weekly schedule and daily operating instructions (DOI’s) to prepare safe work permits for routine maintenance
Stay in touch with shift team and logs to ensure full awareness of unit activities
Prepare equipment for maintenance and issue required Safe Work Permits
Communicate any changes in or impacts to schedule
Monitor safety conditions, identify problems, and seek resolution in a timely manner
Ensure procedures are followed and capture necessary changes accordingly for submission to Production Supervisor, Area Coordinators, and Training Specialist
Provide Operations Log entries for Operations and Maintenance activities related to area of responsibility
Take care of area housekeeping and identify any additional resources that may be required to achieve the same
Completing operating unit progression area requirements within required timelines to achieve proficiency
Material Flow Operations/Emergency Response Technician – Specific Responsibilities (In addition to General Responsibilities):
The technician is expected to advance to the top of the progression program as outlined in Material Flow Emergency Response Operating Technician Training Program, including the attainment of required certifications.
Providing a critical and primary emergency response & rescue role for all Manufacturing East Sites (Corunna, Moore, Rokeby, and St. Clair River Sites)
Carrying a company cell phone and providing on call support for emergencies
Acquiring and maintaining a valid DZ license
Attending fire school training in Texas & Lambton Fire School
Serving as the tactical leader in emergency scenarios
Supporting emergency response training activities including ERT and Emergency Back-up Crew training
Obtaining & maintaining qualification in all Material Flow operating areas and Emergency Response functions
What We Are Looking For:
The successful candidate will have a Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology (CPET) program or equivalent diploma with a minimum 4th Class Operating Engineer Certification (TSSA)
The successful candidate will be required to complete a separate medical assessment including a practical fitness circuit test related to the emergency response responsibilities of the role

Location Information:
The NOVA Chemicals Manufacturing East Sites are located near Sarnia, Ontario. The Sarnia Sites focus on the production of ethylene and polyethylene and is recognized as a cornerstone of Ontario’s petrochemical industry. Sarnia is situated on the south shore of Lake Huron at the headwaters of the St. Clair River, and just an hour from Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Additional Information:
Relocation will NOT be available for this position
Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
This position will work on a seven (7) day, twelve (12) hour rotating days/nights schedule
Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
Positions will include some valve operation, lifting, and some climbing of ladders tanks, and storage vessels within various levels of the unit
Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
