THE COMPANY

NuStef Baking Ltd. is a Canadian food manufacturer known across North America for its unique line of specialty, artisan style cookies and crisps. NuStef produces a unique Italian style waffle cookie branded Reko pizzelle and artisan crisps under its Kii naturals and The Crisp Bakery brands. We also produce private label for some of the largest retailers in North America. We bake our products fresh to order and our cookies are sold primarily in the in-store bakery department and our crisps are sold primarily in the deli department or specialty cracker section at most regional and national retailers.

JOB SUMMARY

The Nustef Baking controller is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all finance and accounting operational functions, formulating and preparing the Company’s annual budgets, weekly cash flow and other regulatory reporting and internal and external financial statements. This position is responsible for the financial close process ensuring accuracy and integrity through the development of, and adherence to, appropriate financial controls, ensures the validity and accuracy of the standard costing system, general ledger and all supporting analyses, reviews and evaluates financial statements including preparation of performance metrics, and coaches a high performance team. Working in a fast-paced environment, the incumbent must have advanced project management and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working cross functionally with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure all aspects of compliance are met effectively and timely.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage daily cash and develops and prepares cash flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly intervals; completes compliance reporting as required for lenders
  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis to ensure the accuracy of results in accordance with Canadian ASPE; manages the preparation of all regulatory reporting
  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection, ensuring compliance with all internal control policies
  • Manage Billing, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition, and Payroll
  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation, update costing and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation
  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
  • Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties
  • Each month, present executive committee with financial reports
  • Assess, execute, and improve policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate reporting within timelines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6 – 10 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 5 years experience as Controller
  • 5+ years manufacturing experience is a must
  • Must possess CPA, CA, CMA or CGA designation
  • Outstanding knowledge of accounting principles (knowledge of Canadian ASPE preferred); and ability to identify, develop and implement appropriate internal controls
  • Experience with standard costing systems and large ERP software is a must (Knowledge of Syspro would be considered an asset)
  • Advanced application of MS Office Suite; highly versed with Microsoft Excel; Power BI is an asset
  • Outstanding technology, analytics and proven leadership ability required
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities while meeting critical business deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, with a sense ownership and proven ability to develop and follow standard procedures is a requirement

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Located at the Company’s headquarters in Vaughan, Ontario. Requires regular travel to the Mississauga, Ontario office

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $120,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
