Reporting to the Senior Lease Accountant, Financial Business Services, the Lease Accountant will be a key member of the team responsible for the lease accounting function globally within Nutrien. They will focus on the accounting, reporting, analysis and compliance aspects of the Retail lease portfolio and be responsible for process improvement and participation in lease related projects as they arise.

The Lease Accountant will collaborate with varied stakeholder groups and Retail branches entering lease agreements ensuring consistent application of accounting policies and procedures relating to the treatment of leases.

This position is open to a remote work arrangement.

What you will do:
Ensure compliance with new lease accounting standards

Review of all new lease and service agreements

Completion of day-to-day accounting and month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis

Coordinate with Legal & Fleet Department on required updates to lease data

Prepare external reporting schedules and commentary

Completion of information requests from external, internal auditors and corporate tax

Attend meetings with international subsidiaries as needed to assist with lease accounting questions

Provide lease accounting support to FP&A and Finance

Work with Mergers and Acquisition team to account for assumed leases

Manage lease accounting software

What you will bring:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance

Minimum 3 to 5 years accounting experience

MBA, CPA, or CMA is desired

Experience with lease accounting, IFRS 16 or ASC 842 would be an asset

Experience with PowerPlan software, SAP, and/or PeopleSoft is desired

Understanding of IFRS & US GAAP rules

Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills

Strong integrity and business ethics

Ability to lead by example and work well with others

Ability to influence and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders

Solution oriented, strong level of attention to detail and the ability to achieve results by holding oneself accountable, taking initiative and delivering on commitments

Ability to prioritize and work well with competing deadlines
