NZH Contracting is seeking a Lead Hand to join our growing team! As the Lead Hand, you will be assisting the project manager in supervising and coordinating Trade Partners and site activities to manage site conditions while facilitating the deficiency-free delivery of our projects. You will also be performing some basic tasks around the site to ensure efficiency. PLEASE APPLY THROUGH INDEED. DO NOT EMAIL US DIRECTLY.
Your responsibilities include:
- Assist the project manager and coordinator in coordinating and supervising site activities, and monitoring quality control to ensure objectives are met.
- Perform carpentry, tiling, demolition, and other general site tasks for new construction or tenant improvement work in accordance with work orders, plans, and specifications.
- Ensure all work meets superior quality control standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Conduct tasks addressing and correcting deficiencies
- Accurately record and maintain relevant paperwork.
- Be an active participant in NZH’s safe work culture; this role will involve maintaining health & safety protocols, as well as ensuring our job sites are adhering to NZH’s COVID-19 policies.
- Coordinate and/or carry out activities to achieve and maintain a clean, organized, and presentable site.
- Remaining informed and in-the-know on the general scope of work.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Site Supervisor.
Your Qualifications:
- 5-7+ years of well-rounded construction experience; including carpentry, tiling, and demolition
- Post-secondary education in construction considered an asset, but not mandatory.
- Previous experience as a Lead Hand or similar role.
- Ability to provide own hand tools.
- Valid driver’s license with access to reliable personal transportation each day.
- A demonstrated track record of dealing successfully and diplomatically with Trades and other Stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- A keen eye for detail with the ability and willingness to report concerns and safety hazards to supervisor in an effective and time sensitive manner.
- Experience with Buildertrend cloud construction software an asset.
- Ability to repetitively lift and move up to 50lbs.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and documents.
- Working knowledge of governing building codes and health and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, coupled interpersonal savvy.
- Ability to assess the quality of woodwork and materials.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment.
- Highly safety-oriented with ability and willingness to carry out tasks in line with Safety Policy and Procedures.
- Superior attention to detail and organized with the ability to prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Able to work overtime as necessary to meet project deadlines.

- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (ie: hard hat, safety boots, COVID-19 mask & eyewear, etc.)

Salary: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
