About the role:
The Director of Global Sourcing will be responsible for the development, execution and communication of the global sourcing, production, quality and commercialization strategy supporting multiple departments in a manner that meets our design aesthetic and financial goals. Additionally, the role is responsible for providing broad thought leadership and career development.
In addition to leading highly talented associates, the Director of Global Sourcing will develop and lead the implementation of plans to achieve the company’s strategic objectives and KPIs related to the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Global Sourcing & Production
- Global sourcing strategy that balances capacity, capability and costing with quality, sustainability metrics;
- A product quality vision and strategy that incorporates world-class standards;
- Source and adopt new vendors to support business growth and development;
- Develop strategic vendor relationships with raw materials and production partners;
- Oversee periodic agent and vendor performance reviews, as well as factory audits and supplier risk assessments as required. Maintain ongoing evaluations of supplier performance;
- Ability to generate cutting edge ideas in a highly cross functional environment;
- Build strong partnerships with Buying, Design, FP&A and Planning to develop, gain alignment and execute the sourcing and quality vision;
- Ensure that the right infrastructure – organization, process, systems and people – is in place to attain departmental and overall company goals and objectives;
- Support teams in creating streamlined work processes. Focus teams and set clear priorities to deliver against demanding workload;
- Lead by example, the highest ethical standard in global sourcing, quality and product commercialization;
- Develop and manage Operational Department budgets;
- Other projects or responsibilities the Company may reasonably assign
Technical Development
- Manage Oak+Fort’s team of technical developers to ensure that the product delivers a consistent and superior fit, with the best-in-class construction;
- Set clear departmental goals and communicate to the teams;
- Build strong partnerships with cross functional teams to ensure a smooth and efficient process and work flow;
- Develop, improve and maintain departmental process Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to drive process consistency in the department as well as provide training documents for new hires
Quality Assurance & Product Compliance
- Draft, manage and update Quality Assurance process for Oak + Fort product received into both managed & 3PL distribution centers in North America
- Drive, own and review results with Leadership and make any required adjustments
- Refine and update global SOP regarding 3rd party inspection protocols where applicable
- Stay connected to the changing global requirements regarding product compliance (i.e. conflict minerals) and own updates and make appropriate changes to the Vendor Manual accordingly
- Implement and oversee both global vendors and third-party inspections to support our AQL 2.5 requirements
- Identify potential quality and production issues and make appropriate recommendations and drive resolution.
Product Testing
- Draft, update and amend current global product testing program when and where applicable
- Continue to partner with Raw Material Manager and certified Labs using their format, review processes and amendment processes so we can make changes when applicable to reach & exceed requirements
- Update Vendor Manual to include any changes to product Testing protocols
- Update all forms to align with the Oak + Fort global testing protocols
- Refine, manage and oversee raw material testing processes with the Oak + Fort vendor and mill matrix to enhance AQL 2.5 quality standards
People Management:
- Build strong teams by attracting and developing the best talent;
- Bring out the best in others, empower and constructively stretch talent;
- Develop the ability of direct reports to drive change and growth;
- Train and coach leaders to optimize business performance: set goals, give specific feedback, give clear directions, teach critical thinking, measure progress, etc.;
- Empower the teams to present ideas for new initiatives;
- Lead the annual performance meetings for direct reports and define S.M.A.R.T objectives for each direct report;
- Ensure all team members understand where they stand and have clear performance objectives aligned with corporate and department goals;
- Act as a leader to handle conflicts, make courageous decisions and solve issues;
- Recruit and develop leadership team to build and support company and functional strategy to realize goals;
- Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a talent succession plan
Requirements:
- Completion of post-secondary or equivalent and relevant Global Sourcing and Production Experience
- Previous related experience in the apparel industry
- In depth understanding of Global Sourcing and Production, Technical Development, Quality Assurance and Product Compliance
- In depth understanding of OAK+FORT’s brand philosophy, style and aesthetics;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- Highly detail-oriented
- Experience managing projects from inception to completion
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work with Microsoft Office, ERP and PLM systems
- Proven ability to lead teams, create strong partnerships and strategize resources to achieve results
- Ability to travel locally, domestically and internationally
