We are looking for a Senior Accountantto join our Finance team!

The Senior Accountant will be tasked with complete preparatory responsibility over financial reporting for One Degree Organic Foods (ODO), providing analysis of over all aspects of the financial statements. In addition, the Senior Accountant will be a key player in supporting our processes optimization initiatives.

Knowledge & Skills

• You are proficient in Microsoft Excel including lookups and pivot tables and have an interest in data visualization

• You are capable of identifying, computing and analyzing key financial drivers within a food manufacturing company.
• You have strong financial modelling skills and can prepare fully integrated three-statement financials, budgets, and forecasts independently.

Experience

• You have experience with full-cycle accounting, closing month-end and preparing robust financial statements
• You have a Canadian CPA accounting designation (or equivalent) and some experience at the senior accountant level
• You have experience with informal leadership of staff
• You have working knowledge and experience with Microsoft GP (or an equivalent ERP system)
• You have a Degree in Business or related discipline

things you will do…

• Support critical month end close functions including invoicing cutoff, accounts receivable reconciliations, trade accruals and variance analysis, and support financial statement analysis
• Review trade spend reporting and analytics
• Support improvements through the development of key metrics
• Help improve system processes and support the implementation of automation projects across the teams
• Support receivable DSO reporting that can be used in working capital projections
• Help ensure relevant intercompany allocations are processed monthly
• Improve daily, weekly, monthly KPI reporting
• Capital Projects team support including project tracking and time allocation
• Month end reporting and understanding of overhead cost drivers
• prepare budget to actual variance analysis
• support in budgeting, cost reporting and forecasting
• support audit requirements for capital asset additions & SRED claims
• Create reports outlining key performance indicators (KPI’s)
• Prepare the month-end financial statement package including the following:
• Three financial statement model
• Supporting month-end working papers such as account balance reconciliations including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, inventory, intercompany, long-term debt and foreign exchange among others
• Compute, create and post month-end adjusting journal entries
• Budget to actual variance analysis on a line item by line-item basis
• Ratio and trend analysis with analytic commentary
• Liaise with the warehouse team and third-party warehouses to support the physical inventory count process and follow up on inventory discrepancies (if required)
• Perform landed cost analysis on inventory purchases
• Assist in the preparation of supporting documentation for bank reporting
• Assist as needed in the annual budget
• Assist with all aspects of the year-end external audit
• Assist with the preparation of year-end tax returns

As needed:

• Support projects related to cost analysis, and the A/R functions
• Prepare and update standard operating procedure documentation
• Support product item creation and maintenance in the ERP system
• Assist in the maintenance of the chart of accounts including the setup of new general ledger account codes
• Help to informally coach, mentor and train new and existing finance and accounting team members when situations arise
• Support for customer profit and loss analysis to aid in pricing decisions
• Support various projects within the department and across the organization
