POSITION: Financial Controller
SUMMARY:
We are looking for a hands-on finance leader with considerable experience working in a professional services or member-based environment in the private, public or non-profit sectors. Location: Downtown Toronto (Note: Currently, all OCC employees are working from home and any attending at the office are subject to comprehensive Covid precautions. We anticipate a graduated return to office that will accommodate a hybrid work-from-office and work-from-office model.)

About the role:
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the organization’s finance and accounting functions including planning, implementing, and managing all financial activities. The role will be responsible for all aspects of Financial Management, including maintaining data and accuracy using accounting systems, membership fees, renewals and sponsorships, financial reporting, coordination of the budgeting process and completing statutory/regulatory compliance/reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budget and revenue:
- Manage all aspects of the organization’s day-to-day financial transactions and processes, month-end, and year-end closure
- Oversee the preparation of all financial reporting including budget variance reports
- Quarterly reporting of government-funded programs
- Manage processes related to membership fees, renewals, and sponsorships to ensure timely and accurate notifications, invoicing, and remittances
- Manage processes related to established or ad hoc event sponsorships and fees
Executive support:
- Provide support to VP, Finance in preparing reports and information for senior team and Board meetings
- Assist VP, Finance in preparation of financial analysis for contract negotiations and program selection decisions
- Assist VP, Finance in the digital transformation process including the implementation of a new accounting system
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements
- Coordinate annual audit including all required documents and information for auditors
- Develop procedural improvements based on audit recommendations and user feedback for streamlined processes and effectiveness
- Prepare funders’ reports and evaluations regarding grants and disbursements
Management:
- Support funding proposals and SME Programs team in establishing project accounting and reporting for successful grants
- Assist VP, Finance with management of Finance, IT and HR team
- Provide budget and KPI assistance to managers as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- University Degree in Finance
- CPA designation
- 5+ years of progressive professional accounting experience
- Experience coordinating external audits
- Experience documenting business processes, developing accounting procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Hands-on experience with accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage 50 or similar
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and manage conflicting priorities
- Thorough attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
Preferred/Asset:
- Project accounting and reporting, specifically with reporting on projects funded by government agencies
- Experience in a not-for-profit sector
- Preparing reports and presenting to NFP board
- Development of KPIs and dashboards
- Familiarity with a CRM system
Salary: $80,000-$90,000 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience
Anticipated start date: Immediately based on availability
