About us
Open Arms Early Childhood Centre is a not-for-profit ministry of The Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd. We are licensed by the Ministry of Education and governed by the Child Care and Early Years Act. We are committed to building a strong and spiritual foundation in the lives of young children; providing them with a loving, safe, Christ-centered environment to learn and grow.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Participate in sessions as required with Pastor to understand the Lutheran teachings and doctrine and comprehend our mission and goals.
- Assess, and order materials in cooperation with the Pastor and Director of Open Arms
- Organize and implement regularly scheduled sessions with the children
- Plan and organize children’s events around the Biblical calendar year – Christmas, Easter…
- Communicate with the Director of the centre, Pastor and Board in a timely manner all observations, concerns or questions
- Must be available to attend occasional Sunday Services
- Develop ways to periodically bring daycare families and church families together
- Provide both formal and informal reports as requested by the Executive Director, Pastor, or the Board of Directors
- Mentor, encourage and assist peers in delivering Christian education in their classrooms
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Graduate
- College diploma an asset/ECE preferred
Experience:
- Early learning center or daycare experience preferred
- Christian teaching experience an asset
- Previous experience with children 2.5-12 years
Skill Sets:
- Computer knowledge required – Microsoft Office
- Safety focused
- Attention to detail
- Creative lesson planning and implementation skills
- Excellent multi-tasking and problem solving
- Report writing
- Effective communication (both oral and written)
- Leadership and interpersonal skills
- Motivational and mentoring abilities

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 10 per week
Salary: From $19.00 per hour
