We have an opportunity for talented Web Designers to join our creative team either as full-time employees or on freelance contracts.

Our Designers conceive and create best-in-class design solutions for our clients. They are fearless, energetic, well-spoken and overflowing with enthusiasm and passion for design, art, technology and creative culture. The Web Designer is a specific breed, with expertise rooted in the digital world. They see systems, flows and interactions in their sleep. While they can speak developer and understand code, our Web Designers can also pontificate the values of good design and smart creative strategy to clients, product owners and our internal team members.

Direct Report: Creative Director

Position: Permanent, Full-time, Salaried –or– Freelance Contractor

Location: Remote –or– office based in Whistler, BC

Qualifications

A post-secondary design degree or diploma and a few years with interactive teams working on medium to large-scale products and websites are foundational to this role. An eye for detail and a passion for beautiful visual solutions are a must. A deep interest and understanding of user behaviour and research, as well as responsive, inclusive and accessible design, should be second nature.

UX/UI/Web

Minimum 4 years of professional Website UX/UI design experience in a design/creative agency.

Thorough understanding of design theory and how to solve visual problems.

Strong grasp of typography, layout and written communication.

Expertise working with a variety of design authoring software applications including Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision and advanced skills using Adobe Creative Suite.

Additional experience/familiarity with wireframing tools such as OmniGraffle, LucidChart, Miro, Mural, Axure, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer etc. is beneficial.

Understanding of component design, user-centred design, responsive design, accessibility and ethical design principles/best practices.

Ability to communicate with developers to help build and test digital solutions.

Familiarity with user journeys/stories, A/B testing and other research methods/information.

Interactive, animated and rapid prototyping skills.

Foundational

Thorough understanding of social platforms, design requirements and best practices.

Confidence in other design disciplines including branding, print, social and video.

Ability to problem solve and multitask while applying marketing and brand strategy.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Confident public speaker.

Collaborative and respectful personality.

Responsibilities

No matter the specialty, Origin team members are expected to bring positivity, energy and passion to the job day in and day out. This role is focused on website design and development but can include multi-channel design challenges as well. The Web Designer will be charged with the same responsibilities as the rest of the design team.

Working in the discipline

Think creatively and strategically within the demands of the client brief and budget.

Co-create discovery, vision and creative presentations with Strategy and Creative Directors, including inspiration, mockups and information architecture.

Deliver fresh, innovative design solutions to all projects from concepting to QA with a focus on high-quality user interfaces and digital experiences.

Work alongside development and QA teams throughout the design and development process to ensure high quality creative output and functionality.

Create wireframes and prototypes of varying fidelity to demonstrate solutions.

Demonstrate a deep understanding of best practices, responsive design and accessibility requirements to internal and external teams.

Champion the usability, consistency, brand relevance and functionality of the final product.

Organize and articulate design solutions and strategy within presentation documents to clearly present and sell in the work.

Stay on top of interactive design trends, conventions and innovations to both satisfy user/client needs and challenge expectations to produce original and inspiring work.

Strive to meet Origin’s Creative Filter with every project.

Collaboration

Collaborate with internal Account/Project Managers, writers and video/content team to push creative ideas, while delivering multiple design directions to provide thought-provoking options for your Creative Director.

Co-create research and strategy deliverables (flow charts, site maps, user stories) with our Digital Strategist to inform design concepts and solutions.

Work with Product Owners, engineering teams and clients to develop UX solutions that drive business and user results.

Facilitate, receive and apply design feedback while striving to improve and elevate the work at all stages of a project.

Ask questions of our creative briefs. Challenge them and offer feedback.

Contribute to Creative Department meetings, initiatives and inspiration.
