INTERNAL/EXTERNAL OCISO JOB POSTING
Position: LINC Online Instructor
Term: Part Time – 15 hours per week (November 2022 – March 31, 2023)
Reports to: Manager, Lanaguge Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
Location: Classroom at 1800 Bank Street – Ottawa

Position Summary
As digital technology and computer use become widespread and necessary for success in today’s life, online learning method is also becoming more common in settlement language training.
OCISO is playing an important role in supporting newcomers through their settlement journey in the digital age and is offering LINC online learning which allows more newcomers to access classroom language training, allows more flexibility for those with job and family commitments and also increases one’s comfort with official languages through digital literacy.
The primary purpose of the LINC Online Instructor is to prepare and deliver Online English language courses to adult newcomers to Canada under the guidelines set by the funder and program manager. The LINC program focuses on English language acquisition in the 4 key areas: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing, as well as providing settlement-information and support regarding life and work in Canada to newcomers.
Main Responsibilities:
· Design, implement, and instruct LINC online classes following PBLA and LINC Curriculum Guidelines and adult learner needs online and in person
· Maintain/prepare attendance logs, journal of activities, student evaluations and monthly reports
· Identify resources and technology appropriate to support the English language training at the relevant level
· Be able to design module and lesson plans that are level appropriate, creative, and innovative and teach language development while also teaching how to integrate into Canadian culture
· Design assessment tasks for on-going evaluation of learners’ progress based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA guidelines
· Design PBLA based module plans as well as daily lesson plans following the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012
· Accommodate special learning needs faced by equity groups and those from diverse cultures
· Provide input to colleagues/managers regarding policies, resource requirements and other matters affecting programming
· Conduct needs assessments with learners, assist them to set learning goals and develop lessons accordingly as required
· Provide synchronous and asynchronous online instruction using virtual conferencing tools, language learning software and MS programs
· Prepare learners’ progress reports and conduct one-on-one interviews with learners to provide feedback on learning progress as required
· Organize guest speakers and special events to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experience
Qualifications:
· TESL Ontario accreditation (OCELT) in good standing – will be verified in the TESL Ontario database
· Undergraduate degree preferably in the areas of Linguistics, Education or the Humanities
· Understanding of and experience using PBLA, the Revised Canadian Language Benchmarks 2012, the LINC Curriculum Guidelines and ESL for Adult Literacy Learners (ALL) 2015
· Experience providing adult instruction using virtual delivery tools and software (e.g. MS-Teams, Zoom, Google Classroom, etc.)
· Experience in teaching ESL to adults with settlement needs/goals
· Experience in curriculum development
· Highly developed interpersonal skills: positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, and solution-focused
· Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural team environment and open to all perspectives
· Familiarity with services provided by OCISO
· Understanding immigrant/settlement issues for which lived experience is a definite asset
· Ability and willingness to support and coordinate the contributions of volunteers, researchers and practicum students
· Experience in integrating online resources and Learning Management System such as Avenue.ca in language instructions is an asset
· Proficiency with computer applications, including the MS Office Suite, Internet Search Engines, and Database Programs
· Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners
· Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills
Salary & Benefits: $35.66-$36.37 per hour plus 4% vacation pay. (Note: structured unpaid breaks include year-end, March and summer months).
