Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Services or Nurse in Charge and working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent:
Slating of operating room procedures and monitoring of schedules in procedure rooms. Act independently, exercise judgement in scheduling, and make changes on an emergency basis for best utilization of resources.
Ensure availability of staff, space and equipment.
Interacting for scheduling purposes and as an information resource for physicians, departments, clinics and hospitals.
Collects department statistics as required by management.
Performs billing and process monthly statements as assigned.
Maintains unit supplies and performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
Experience
Two years previous experience as a Unit Clerk required, preferably on a surgical unit.
Must communicate fluently in written and spoken English. Must have good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
Successful completion of a Certified Unit Clerk program required.
Successful completion of a Medical Secretary Course required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
None
Qualifications and Skills
Medical terminology required.
Typing/keyboard skills (30-50 wpm) required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work effectively under considerable stress, interact with diverse groups with competing interests and demonstrate flexability in dealing with constant change.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
