Divisional Controller:
Directs the daily operation of the Consumer Products Division Accounting Department and controls the accounting function for Consumer Products Division. Safeguards company assets, reports financial results and makes recommendations for actions based upon financial circumstances. Develops, analyzes, and interprets statistical and accounting information to ensure profitability, capital expenditures, and performance against budget are within established guidelines. Assists Divisional management with financial planning and forecast preparation. Prepares, monitors, and maintains policies and work instructions to ensure adherence to divisional audit requirements. Provides guidance to Consumer Sales, Marketing, Service Managers and office staff on company policies and procedures. Participates as a subject matter expert, or participant in special projects or on committees as required.

Responsibilities:
Protects company assets such as inventory, accounts receivable and fixed assets. Approves Credit Notes (e.g., rebates, advertising claims, adjustments), Purchase Orders and Payment Approvals according to the company’s Approval Chart. Ensure compliance with company and division policies and protects against fraudulent activities. Contributes to policy development, makes recommendations, and implements new procedures on approval.
Provides timely and accurate financial services, in accordance with GAAP, Corporate Policy, Divisional Policy, and legislative requirements to Consumer Division management and assists in decision making. Ensures financial services meet changing business needs, and the external environment. Prepares and develops various statistical and analytical reports. Presents findings and makes recommendations to senior management.
Assists with divisional mid-term plans and prepares annual budgets including financial statements: Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, Accounts Receivable, Cash Flow, Inventory and Purchases forecast, Reserves Analysis. Monitors, improves, and streamlines information gathering activities. Keeps up to date on accounting trends and best practices. Provides input into corporate policy and divisional procedural changes.
Manage financial month end close for Consumer Division, including preparation of the financial package and presentation of the financial review, including detailed descriptions, recommended changes or course corrections. Presents and defends information to senior management.
Contributes to the Division’s profitability by investigating all budget discrepancies, monitoring and controlling customer specific sales programs (e.g.. VIR, COOP Advertising, Marketing Development Funds, Sales Promotions). Provides analysis and recommendations as required.
Mentors, guides, coaches’ staff and ensures staff development that is consistent with the company objectives. Ensures continuity of function by cross-training staff as required. Participates in hiring, dismissal, performance evaluation, and the resolution of other staff issues. Establishes priorities, as re-assigns staff as required. Ensures adherence to corporate employment equity objectives.
Prepares documentation, reporting and compliance with internal, external, and SOX audit teams. Provides functional guidance to others on compliance or audit issues. Receives audit feedback and makes recommendations for course corrections as required.
The Successful Candidate Will Have (List in Short Bullet Points Below)
Accounting designation (CPA) and 10 years of progressive financial management experience.
Sound understanding of SAP financial reporting systems in addition to advanced knowledge of Excel software.
Intermediate knowledge of other Microsoft software such as Outlook, Word. Some knowledge of Power Point would be an asset.
Be able to interpret and act upon financial results.
Provide analyses and consultation of sales results to divisional management.
Comply with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SOX or other company established policies and procedures.
Excellent problem solving and consultative skills required to identify and evaluate risks. Make recommendations accordingly.
Project management and organizational skills would be strongly preferred.
Ability to articulate financial information in easy-to-understand language to non-financial management team members.
Excellent presentation and influencing skills required to recommend financial information to senior management.
Good relationship building and management skills to maintain relations with sales and marketing teams.
Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.
