Position Title: Financial Analyst
Team and Location: Finance – Calgary, AB
Position Summary:
The Financial Analyst provides analytical support services to the Retail Division through continual analysis of P&L statements, responding to queries and enquiries from Retail Operations Team, preparing and distributing pre-determined monthly financial and analytical reports, compilation of general accounting entries and establishing strong working relationships with stakeholders within the Retail Division. The candidate will provide recommendations to improve and streamline tasks within the area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Be an active member of the Retail Finance team; a self-starter, team collaborator with great investigation skills, willing to brainstorm issues, data-driven and highly organized to complete multiple ad-hoc requests with a variety of priorities and deadlines.
Assist with month-end activities including the preparation of month-end journal entries, variance explanations to budget and prior year for the preparation of the month-end reporting package.
Support the team with various tasks on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, including but not limited to: month-end accounting close, reporting, audit requests and annual budgets.
Report and monitor weekly/monthly Retail Finance metrics.
Perform accurate and timely Balance Sheet reconciliations, investigate exceptions, and follow up accordingly to ensure accuracy of data identifying any root cause issues, errors or omissions.
Assist with the monthly workflow process within OneStream to ensure that EBITDA results are in sync with Retail reported results and intercompany balances have been cleared before final certification.
Ensure reporting deadlines are met and distributed to the business in a timely manner.
Research and respond to day-to-day enquiries from Operational Territory and Regional Managers and provide analytics and variance analysis on financial results.
Assists in IT projects, system enhancements and seamless integration of new acquisitions.
Ad-hoc reporting and information requests as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
University Degree in Business or Commerce.
3-5 years accounting experience.
Professional accounting designation in Canada (CPA) or near completion.
Working knowledge of IFRS.
Advanced Excel user.
Strong analytical and computer skills (JDE an asset).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Customer service driven with a strong desire to support operations with financial decision making.
Ability to work with a large cross-functional team.
