PeaceHealth is seeking a RN ASC PreOp/PACU for a Part Time, 0.80 FTE, Day position.

The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $41.20 – $61.80. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care through the preoperative and/or postoperative phase of care. Participates with other facility team members to provide optimal patient care and efficient patient flow, taking into consideration the population-specific needs for patients at all stages of life.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Patient Care Duties

1. Performs professional preoperative nursing care for patients to ensure a caring patient experience.

2. Coordinates with other internal or external disciplines that are involved in providing patient care.

3. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care provided by coaching, training, and developing ancillary personnel while documenting findings.

4. Evaluates outcomes and adjusts the nursing care plans as necessary in consultation with other nursing staff and physicians. Documents patient care and the response received from the care provided by staff.

5. Enhances patient flow by proactively coordinating with other departments for patient care.

6. Assures that patient is knowledgeable about the procedures being performed and communicates efficiently with family or support persons.

7. Prepares patients for procedures and ensures that surgical sites are marked.

8. Administers medication and controls narcotics for patients as ordered by the physician.

9. Performs venipuncture as necessary for IV starts.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Patient Recovery Duties

1. Assesses the patient’s recovery from sedation and/or anesthesia and makes appropriate judgments for nursing intervention. Recognizes life-threatening arrhythmias and initiates appropriate therapy and/or assures assistance.

2. Monitors patient levels of consciousness through communication and appropriate observation of blood pressure, O2 saturation, cardiac and respiratory statuses.

3. Prepare patients for discharge with postoperative instructions per orders from physicians and assesses patient readiness for discharge using discharge criteria.

4. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Required unless otherwise stated

EDUCATION:

• Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

• Minimum of one to three years related experience in a multi-specialty PREOP/PACU, preferably in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center.

• Completion of an accredited OR training program.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Registered Nurse license in state of practice

• BLS for Healthcare Providers

• ACLS

• PALS

PHMG PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

• Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.

• Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.

• Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.

• Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).
