Our team is growing, and we are actively looking to hire a Manager, Provincial Underwriting to join our Underwriting Team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Pembridge Underwriting Operations, the Manager, Provincial Underwriting will be accountable for providing operational leadership and direction, coaching and mentoring a capable team of direct reports; as well as:
- Ensuring high level risk management through rigorous underwriting processes to accomplish frequency and quality targets
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal Underwriting results within appropriate metrics, including quality, quantity, timeliness, productivity, customer satisfaction and financial performance
- Ensure compliance to filed underwriting rules
- Ensuring the appropriate availability of resources for the Allstate Underwriting function, including the necessary financial resources, technology resources and the acquisition and talent pool development of optimal human resources
- Developing and managing a capable team and ensuring appropriate managerial practices
- Develop, recommend, implement and maintain appropriate Underwriting policies, processes, practices, specialty techniques, continuous improvement initiatives
- Develop and maintain effective strategic partnerships with Allstate brokers in the region, and lead relationship-building practices between underwriters and brokers.
- Develop, implement and maintain control mechanisms and processes to ensure compliance to external and internal policies and requirements and ensure mitigation of risks. This includes setting context and direction and prescribing limits to direct reports and implementing feedback loops
- Develop, recommend, implement and maintain appropriate underwriting and service policies, processes, practices, specialty techniques, continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in managing a team including hiring, performance, and salary management with the ability to coach & mentor a team of direct reports with the ability to motivate and understand the needs of others
- 10+ years of experience in personal lines insurance, preferably in Underwriting
- University Degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance or related discipline and/or equivalent work experience
- CIP/ CRM Designation or actively pursuing
- Complex Decision-making skills with the ability to design, analyze and evaluate information
- Strong written & verbal communication skills to clearly convey ideas, concepts and information, including presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills – the ability to influence, convince and persuade others
- Intermediate-level proficiency in MSO Applications: Excel, WORD, PowerPoint; MD Teams; Zoom
- Strong financial and business acumen with foundational understanding of the P&C Industry
- Strong understanding of Property & Casualty Insurance product, wording, and regulatory requirements is an asset
- Ability to cultivate & maintain excellent professional working relationships with key stakeholders
- Strong organizational & self-management skills
