We are now looking for the following position:
Role: Staff Accountant
Location: St. John’s, NL
As a core member of the Finance and Accounting team for multi-company technical specialty services organization, this position will report to the Controller, and have wide spectrum of financial and accounting responsibilities that that include budgeting, financial performance analysis, and reporting. Specific responsibilities of the Staff Accountant will include, but not limited to, the following:
Assisting with month end financial closing, reconciliation and reporting;
Supporting the accounting staff as required (including but not limited to preparing cheques, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations);
Preparing HST Returns and Bank Reconciliations;
Reconciling of GL accounts / Trial balance;
Completing payments as required including wire transfer, EFTs and bill payments;
Assisting with preparation for the financial year-end audit, including maintenance of year-end working papers and spreadsheets;
Assisting with preparation of Financial Statements;
Assisting with the development of business procedure documentation for complex financial and accounting issues;
Maintaining an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and bookkeeping activities;
Maintaining an up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support bookkeeping and financial records;
Providing support and direction to other staff within the Finance and Accounting team;
Assisting with fleet management and tracking;
Assisting with the general analysis of accounts and preparing of reports documenting findings; and
Other duties as required.
To succeed in the position, you will have the following:
Business Degree, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education;
3 to 5 years of accounting experience;
Be highly detailed oriented – having the right numbers drives you forward;
The successful candidate will be an effective team player with a positive attitude;
Self-starter who readily identifies opportunities for improvement, seeking solutions to deliver sustaining results; and
Ability to juggle multiple deadlines simultaneously, multitask, and prioritize.
