Reporting to the Heads, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, the Director is accountable for directing the business and operations of both the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. Within this role, the incumbent collaborates with multiple leadership positions and ensures all contractual, administrative (financial and HR) and operational functions for salaried physicians, contracted physicians, research staff, and management and operating staff are met.
The Director provides leadership in a diverse manner for all administrative, business and operational functions which include but are not limited to financial and human resources accountability within the Department. Acts as the overall cost center manager for accounts and budgets within the hospital based Department. Is involved in the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of Departmental and divisional activities. Makes decisions and problem solves on diverse and complex issues ensuring measureable and tenable outcomes. Works closely with Physician Compensation Offices, Business Planning, UBC, Human Resources, Medical Affairs and Information Management and other Health Authorities in the delivery of MFM services.
What you do
Ensure and provide financial accountability for operational budgets and oversee research funds and is designated as the principal costs center manager for these accounts. This includes budget preparation, approval of expenditures, overseeing the maintenance of accounts / records, and performing necessary follow through and remediation. You will have delegated signing authority for the Department and Division at Hospital. Inform and advise leadership as required.
Provide advice on management information systems relevant to Departments and Divisions at BC Women’s Hospital.
Act as the principal interface for managing scheduling software for both MFM and OB 24/7 call resources. Allocate and reorganize resources accordingly.
Develop and respond to new systems and procedures on a continuous basis which enhance the resource allocation to clinical programs and is the direct liaison with the developer and maintainer of Department resource scheduling (Nsight with Lightning Bolt Systems) and workload (PhAIS) programs and reporting.
Demonstrate initiative in the planning, implementation and resolution of strategies, business processes and adverse or problem areas. Create and disseminate reports as required.
Manage physician financial and HR resources and liaise with PCO on contracts, workload and databases for PHSA.
Participate in various committee forums and ensure activities are communicated and followed through.
Act as a resource for Physician terms and conditions and advise / report as required.
Approve all leave for salaried physicians per Department policies and procedures.
Oversee research funding as monitored and reported by the department research manager.
Lead and mentor department administrative coordinator and research manager.
What you bring
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a postgraduate Master’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field of study.
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of recent related experience with emphasis on financial management, human resource management, leadership and strategic management skills.

Sound working knowledge of Microsoft environment and ability to create databases, financial spreadsheets and report documents.
Collaborate with a variety of team members and in partnerships with other health authorities.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-direction and direction of others.
Direct multiple projects and operational activities simultaneously.
An attention to detail and ability to oversee numerous department functions and accountabilities is required.
