Laboratory Assistant 2/ Laboratory Support

The Laboratory Assistant II/Laboratory Support performs duties such as venipunctures, collecting urine samples for analysis by the Technologist, preparing and staining slides, and preparing and batching specimens.
What you’ll do
- Perform venipunctures and micro blood collection on adults, children, and babies.
- Check specimen identification against requisition to prepare for blood and urine analysis and look up patient information utilizing the laboratory computer information system.
- Separate serum/plasma from cells by centrifugation.
- Batch specimens in order of established priorities for distribution to various areas or laboratories for testing.
- Collect urine samples from outpatients as outlined on the requisition.
- Prepare various staining solutions, chemical cleaning, and disinfectant solutions as required. Change staining solutions, stains, mounts and labels slides.
What you bring
- Completion of Grade 12
- Successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program.
- One (1) year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
You have the ability to:
- Keyboard at 25 w.p.m.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Deal with others effectively.
- Physically carry out the duties of the position.
- Organize work.
- Operate related equipment.
