This role supports the BC Centre for Disease Control’s (BCCDC) Immunization Service (IMMS). The Service is responsible for the planning, implementation support, monitoring and evaluation of provincial immunization programs, promoting immunization, provincial immunization initiatives and surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and response to outbreaks. The Service helps advocate for immunization programs and also houses the vaccine warehouse and pharmacy which jointly maintain and distribute required pharmaceuticals for the communicable disease control and harm reduction programs.
What you’ll do
The Manager, Public Health, reports to the Director, Operations. Working in co-management with the Medical Director and medical leads, the Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management of public health services within the Service. Responsible for managing and directing staff, budget development and oversight, and implementation of operational plans, the role provides leadership and direction for the operations management, utilization of resources and risk management, and quality improvement. High-level accountabilities include:
Develops strategic priorities and coordinates operational planning and implementation of culturally safe and equitable public health services in conjunction with the medical leads and medical director.
Provides overall leadership and direction for team members using effective management techniques that support the achievement of required outcomes.
Manages service area operations including recruitment, hiring, planning and monitoring staffing, resources, and supplies.
Prepares the Service budget including for projects and research proposals, monitors variances and uses best practice methods in reporting, monitoring and managing allocated budget; coordinates contract management as required.
Leads, in collaboration with medical & professional practice leaders, the identification of evidence-based strategies, the development of quality indicators and/or care pathways, ensures compliance with accreditation standards, and coordinates or participates in quality improvement activities.
Represents public health at operational meetings with external organizations as required; participates on committees as appropriate at provincial and national levels.
What you bring
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Health, Business or Health Administration, Nursing, or a healthcare related field, or an equivalent level of education, training and experience
7 years’ recent and related public health clinical experience, including 2 years working in a managerial/leadership capacity
Skills
Proven leadership ability, with communication and interpersonal skills conducive to interacting in a multidisciplinary environment and relating easily to people from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of cultural safety and cultural humility, and application in healthcare setting.
Leads teams and to promote teamwork through coaching, mentoring, and supervision.
Critical thinking skills and proven ability to effectively manage human and fiscal resources.
Demonstrated understanding and experience of quality assurance process, operational planning and program development, using electronic systems, spreadsheets, and database programs.
Familiarity with public health information systems
