Project Manager I, Slocan Redevelopment

The Slocan Site Redevelopment Project is a team responsible for the design, construction, and operationalizing of a new centre for children and youth living with health complexity in East Vancouver. This role will focus on the clinical planning aspects of the project with some overall project support as well. This is an exciting opportunity to join a visionary project that will support thousands of families in BC. Children living with health complexity require a range of health-care services and other supports so that families and care providers can look after them in their own communities.
This new program of BC Children’s Hospital will coordinate some of those services and supports through a first-of-its-kind care model in Canada, and one of the first internationally. The team is working in close partnership with patients, families/caregivers, care providers, Indigenous partners, and leading medical experts in caring for this population. This is a rare chance to deliver not a traditional hospital, but an innovative health-care centre in the midst of a residential neighbourhood, on a site that has been offering health care since 1912. It includes working with architects on a design, watching it transform into a physical building, and celebrating as the first children and families enter through its doors. Most importantly, it means being part of the team that made it all happen.
What you’ll do:
- Establish detailed project charter, plans and objectives to outline timelines and project deliverables. Execute project plan according to project methodologies, ensure successful and coordinated completion of project components, consult with stakeholders as needed and ensure readiness for project implementation.
- Track project progress according to project plan and identified metrics. Monitor and report on the status of projects and major barriers encountered. Make recommendations to Director regarding project scope and related changes required to facilitate a successful outcome. Implement or contribute to the implementation of effective processes to assess project risks, identify risk mitigation strategies and monitor risk throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of project budgets within the context of operations demands and environmental and resource constraints and uses best practice methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budgets.
- Provide leadership by giving advice or guidance in situations that require interpretation and judgment.
What you bring:
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration, Business Administration or relevant health care discipline
- A minimum of five (5) year’s recent, related experience in project management and facilitating and managing consultation processes with a wide range of stakeholder groups.
- Project Management Professional designation considered an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and ability to coach team members on these skills.
- Experience or working knowledge of content areas is key to the success of this role.
- Effectively monitors budgets and executes project plans with stringent timelines. Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
- Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment including ability to communicate with the physician community. Utilizes effective facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
- Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Computer literacy with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database applications.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $77,822 – $111,869. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
