Scope
Under Pathways to Newcomer Integration: settlement, employment, and language training project, the Counsellor will be responsible for facilitating workshops and delivering one-on-one settlement and employment services to eligible refugees. This includes the delivery of Information/Orientation and Job Search Workshops, individual settlement and employment-related counselling and assessment; solution-focused counselling, language training, information, and referral provision, facilitating information sessions on settlement/employment-related topics.
Responsibilities
Deliver all components of the settlement and employment services to refugees including settlement and employment assessment, goals setting and action plan preparation, identifying internal and external programs to achieve the set goals; job search workshops facilitation and follow-ups
Deliver career exploration activities in groups and individually and provide comprehensive information on Canadian workplace culture, labour market, regulated professions and trades, and professional licensing
Provide comprehensive information in-person, by phone, by e-mail, and through live chat and deliver Information on settlement-related topics including Orientation to Ontario (O2O), sources of information and local resources, rights and freedoms, law and justice, legal assistance, immigration matters, language, and professional courses, financial assistance and benefits, housing, education for children and adults, healthcare services, transportation, community networks, and recreation
Provide group sessions on topics including general orientation for newcomers, information on healthcare, housing, legal information, immigration and citizenship, financial assistance, local community services for seniors, youth, family violence, and parenting
Provide employment support (individual or group settings) based on the Transition to Employment for Newcomers model. This includes employment pathways sessions, pre-employment sessions, job search sessions, and employability skills and next steps sessions.
Assist in goal-setting and action plan preparation, development, and implementation
Market and promote refugees to employers, the business community, and industry groups
Achieve the target number of successful placements
Maintain strong working relations with agency programs and partner agencies
Maintain the continuous and accurate records of clients assisted and services provided, in electronic database and paper files
Effectively track clients’ progress and provide reports for supervisor and colleagues
Must meet targets set by the program manager
Organize employment and settlement related materials and tools for easy access and update them regularly

Qualifications
A degree or diploma in Employment or Career Counselling, Education or Business, and at least three years experience working in the not-for-profit sector
Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills with the ability to engage and motivate others
At least three years of experience working with groups: developing and delivering presentations, seminars, workshops
Demonstrated career, employment, and settlement counselling skills
Strong knowledge of the Canadian labour market and labour market trends
Proficiency in professional recognition in Canada, N.O.C., trade certification, and professional licensing information
Competences in career and employment individual assessment, and job search techniques and process
Familiarity with issues newcomers to Canada face in an urban setting and systemic barriers facing integration in economic, social, education, and cultural aspects of Canadian life
Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving, ability to implement curriculum
Ability to work flexible schedules on an as-needed basis
Flexibility to work from various locations in the GTA as needed to achieve targets
Use of own vehicle is an asset to the job
Fluency in a second language is an asset
Other requirements
