Core Function: Distributed Systems Batch and Console Operator
Perform IT Operations Operator duties in accordance with documented processes and procedures. This includes a working knowledge of the client’s system environment with the ability to interact, troubleshoot and work independently in a 7/24/365 environment.
Shift work and the ability to be on site are required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Job duties include:
• Monitor network devices including routers, switches, hubs, gateways, firewalls, and resource availability, reliability, and performance using Tivoli On Demand event management shared services.
• Respond to alerts automatically generated by monitoring tools (Viewpoint, Netview, Tivoli, Omnibus, etc.)
• ArcSignt and Nagios are used to monitor multiple security services, including intrusion detection/prevention services, managed firewalls (perimeter and endpoint), web content filtering, email anti-spam -mails and email encryption
Surveillance
– Perform a general health review daily to ensure systems are functioning and no system alerts, errors or issues can be detected
– Respond to alerts automatically generated by monitoring tools (Viewpt, Netview, Tivoli, Omnibus, etc.)
– Monitored devices include servers, hubs, routers, switches, gateways and firewalls
– Monitoring includes system alerts, device alerts and application alerts.
– Perform Tier 1 problem determination procedure (ping servers, network/subordinate devices.)
– Perform level 2 problem determination on alerts. (e.g. filesystem/CPU checks)
– Transmit incidents to the relevant Teams support
– Document all incidents encountered with detailed actions taken.
– Transfer to third-party providers if necessary to resolve.,
– Escalate/engage MI if necessary.
– ArcSignt and Nagios used to monitor multiple security services including intrusion detection/prevention services, managed firewalls (perimeter and endpoint), web content filtering, email anti-spam emails and email encryption
– Monitor TSM backups through Trinity. Escalate missed or failed backups.
– verify restores on NDMP.
– Monitor OSS link monitor and restart all failed links
– Monitor daily backups and respond to any issues. tape mounts, bad tapes, restart backup on failure
– Monitor GNM query database
– Support the Helpdesk and respond to requests
– Execute roadmap / batch items that need to be checked or executed
– Reset/restart links, communication lines, devices, monitors, printers, graphical interfaces,
– Complete GNM transactions
– Complete OMS application upgrades/releases as required
– Recycle apps as needed.
– Identity administration
– Perform server restarts as requested
– Readiness activation test (testing new servers for alerts.)

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a data center operating environment.
• Intermediate understanding of Windows, AIX/Unix and network monitoring environments
• Knowledge of batch job monitoring and scheduling tools such as ESP, Control-M, CA-7 and TWS/OPC
• Knowledge of distributed systems devices such as servers, hubs, routers, switches, gateways and ‘fire walls’
Knowledge of Outlook, ticketing systems (Maximo, Servicenow, Remedy, Cherwell)
• Know system monitoring tools (Viewpt, Netview, Tivoli, Omnibus, etc.) and processes
•Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative and team environment.
• Solid experience in determining and reporting 1st level issues
• Understand the requirements for problem management and change management
•Ability to multi-task with great attention to detail.
• Must be able and willing to learn new tasks/skills as needed
•Must be able to communicate
