Point Hope Maritime (a Ralmax Group Company) has an exciting and immediate opening for a full-time Fabricator in Victoria, BC. The fabricator will be responsible for the fit up of metal components and potentially welding out of fabricated assemblies. The Fabricator’s job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal alloys and their properties is essential. All fabricated components will be subject to third party inspection for both dimensional tolerances and weld quality.

Responsibilities:
Provide routine maintenance
Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance
Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to facilitate prompt correction or reporting
Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Align parts in relation to each other, using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls
Mark location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding
Perform layout using tools such as tape measures, rulers, squares, bevels, levels, hammers & punches
Cut materials by means of saws, shears, abrasive blades, plasma & oxy / fuel torches
Bend metal by using equipment such as hand benders, press brakes, rollers or heat forming by drawing metal around jigs
Drill / punch holes in metal by means of drills (magnetic base, hand & drill presses)
Grind metal by means of angle grinders, belt sanders or bench grinders
Fasten metal components together by bolting clamping or welding
Read, understand & interpret both computer generated drawing along with hand sketches
Interpret both standards of measurements (imperial & metric)
Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips
Hold items in place to affix other items to it by means of bolts, clamps or tack welds
Perform tasks such as grinding overhead or hold & tack weld items overhead
Swing large and small hammers in order to align components when fitting
Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts
Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding
Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines
Other duties within scope of the position, as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
Must hold a Journeyman’s certificate, or have Red Seal
Competition of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
C.W.B Welding Certification (current) a must in both FCAW & SMAW
A fabricator must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions
Ability to communicate, read, and understand/follow directions in English
Willingness to participate in regular training programs and courses
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge and ability to read blueprints
Knowledge of standard safety procedures and protocol
Read and interpret technical drawings and information
Ability to weld symbols, sequences, and distortion control to produce high quality product
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Ability to set goals and manage multiple projects and initiatives
Ability to set, commit to and meet deadlines
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing business needs
Mature, professional, and optimistic attitude

Requirements:
Must be able to stand, crouch, kneel and/or sit for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders and work from elevation, and walk on varied terrain
Regularly perform repetitive tasks
Must be able to lift items overhead up to 35 Lbs
Ability to work within confined spaces
Possess manual dexterity
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Must have a complete set of tools to perform their job duties, i.e., squares, punches, chalk lines & hammer etc.
Work Conditions
Travel to off-site locations may be required
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Overtime as required
Hazards associated with the trade
Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
