Ralmax Group of Companies has an exciting and immediate opening for a full-time Journeyman Millwright or Mechanic in Victoria, British Columbia. They will have experience with industrial and construction equipment maintenance. We operate a safe, clean facility and consider security and safety our top priorities, so we are looking for a professional whose values reflect our own. Reporting to the Mechanical Chargehand, the Millwright or Mechanic is a full-time position, responsible for installing, inspecting, adjusting and repairing equipment while following safety rules and regulations. You will be required to maintain all equipment to required standards and be responsive to production needs and equipment failures. You work as part of a team but would routinely perform work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties. Heavy duty mechanic, Auto Mechanic, Marine Mechanic, Machinist also considered.

Responsibilities:

• Provide routine maintenance;
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and detailed repair drawings related to construction equipment and machinery
• Dismantle equipment when required for repair or transportation and reassemble it at the appropriate time
• Move equipment to appropriate site for repair or maintenance to avoid contamination or workplace safety hazards
• Create solid foundations for machines on-site and instruct other construction workers about safe and efficient interaction with machinery and equipment
• Align and calibrate machinery and equipment parts as required for efficient and safe operation
• Grind and file machinery parts both on-site and in controlled circumstances
• Direct construction workers when interacting with or using equipment
• Installation of new and added on equipment;
• Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics;
• Accurate completion of work orders and time cards;
• Repair cooling, and lubrication systems;
• Install and align engines and machinery;
• Repair cable operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc;
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance;
• Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work;
• Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation;
• Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• High school diploma/GED required;
• Journey Level millwright state certification required;
• Efficient time-management skills;
• Minimum 2 years relevant work experience;
• Red seal experience is a definite asset but not required;
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills allowing one to work effectively in a diverse working environment;
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;
• Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment;
• Experience using PLC’s is an asset;
• Experience of Mig and Stick welding;
• Ability to work independently without supervision and meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge and Skills

• Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment of the millwright trade.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical plans and specifications.
• Spatial perception to visualize from drawings and sketches sequences of parts assembly and relative positions of machinery components; coordination and manual dexterity to accurately assemble parts, make fine adjustments and use precision measuring techniques.
• Skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment of the trade.

Work Conditions

• As a Millwright/Industrial Mechanic, you may work indoors or outdoors, often closely with other professionals, including electricians, steamfitter/pipefitters or welders. The job can be physically demanding – you may have to work with heavy equipment and materials.
• As with all careers in the ship repair industry, safety is the top priority. Millwrights and industrial mechanics are trained to work safely and wear special equipment to protect themselves from injury.
• Travel to off-site locations may be required;
• Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
• Overtime as required;
• Hazards associated with the trade.
