Recently the organization has expanded operations in the province of Quebec, so are currently seeking a bilingual candidate who can communicate fluently in French and English, both in written and spoken contexts. Your role will be crucial in our expansion, as you will be the bridge between our English-speaking team and their French-speaking customers and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a similar role, understand the provincial requirements in Quebec, and learn quickly while working collaboratively with the operations and other internal stakeholder teams.
The primary responsibility for this role will be to take ownership of the Quebec property portfolio and ensure that the reporting, remittances, and deliverables are accurate and submitted on time. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Associate Vice President of Finance and work closely with the Controller to coach, mentor, and develop the team of intermediate and junior accountants in the Woodbridge Office.
Depending on the workload, there will be some oversight over a portfolio in other provinces or leading a group of intermediate accountants. This role provides a great opportunity for individuals seeking challenging and complex work as the company grows.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• CPA designation
• 5 – 6 years of progressive professional accounting experience
• Bilingual, English and French (both spoken and written)
• Experience in Quebec accounting and remittances is required.
• Supervisory or team management experience, an asset
• Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, tax, and audit
• Ability to investigate accounting standards and recommend accounting treatment for complex transactions for multiple legal entities.
• Experience with preparing, analyzing, and filing tax requirements
• Ability to influence operational/policy changes cross-functionally in a positive manner
• Intermediate to advanced level of Excel, (including V-lookup and Pivot Tables)
• Highly organized with demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills – able to present to non-experts at both the management and non-management levels
• Intermediate to advanced level of Excel and proficiency with MS Office Suite
• Proven ability to effectively handle and prioritize multiple and complex projects, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
• Strong work ethic and takes the initiative to get the job done
• Optimistic attitude.
