Red Hat’s Automotive Digital Cockpit Engineering team is looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join us on Red Hat’s In-Vehicle Operating System automotive Linux deployments.
In this role, you will implement and sustain ARM GPU hardware enablement in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for automotive, which involves both GPU graphics and compute support. This effort will include working directly with IHV partners to enable their drivers to work efficiently and effectively with our Linux kernel DRM infrastructure and user-space libraries, such as OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan, Mesa, Wayland and X.org.
You will work to further Red Hat’s involvement in community groups, such as SOAFEE, and the Arm SystemReady efforts.

What you will do:
- Develop and enhance GPU infrastructure for ARM, both kernel and user-space
- Actively participate in the related upstream Linux communities
- Backport ARM GPU infrastructure, drivers and fixes to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases (RHEL)
- Develop processes and procedures enabling partner ARM GPU and accelerator devices for use with Red Hat In-Vehicle Operating System based on RHEL
- Sustain this support through the life-cycle of the ARM devices and RHEL releases
- Participate in the broader upstream Linux community
- Participate in community groups, such as SOAFEE, and the Arm SystemReady
- Contribute new development work
- Collaborate in the automotive partner ecosystem
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Management, Documentation, and product build teams, as well as the open source community
What you will bring:
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Graphics/GPU software engineering.
- Fluent in C programming and Linux scripting tools
- Knowledge of multiple chips, ideally Qualcomm
- OS kernel and Device Driver development and deployment experience with Android, Linux, Chrome or Windows systems.
- Excellent understanding of devices software stack and interaction with hardware layer in GPU architecture.
- Knowledge of Git and upstream Linux kernel patch posting procedures, or experience with upstream development
- Experience with backporting upstream code to Linux distributions, kernel configuration, building, and testing
- Ability to work on your own in a small team environment
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks
The following are considered a plus:
- Knowledge of the ISO26262 standard
- Expertise in Mesa and Wayland/X.org
- Knowledge of SoC architectures, Linux kernel based operating systems, hardware and OS level virtualization, Automotive grade safety/security, GPU core, Display technologies, Multimedia
