13 Month Term Assignment
The Region of Peel serves more than 1.4 million residents and approximately 173,000 businesses in Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga and delivers a wide range of resident focused services across the Region. With a budget of $107.3M and 687 full time staff, the Health Services Department works tirelessly to provide integral public health programs to the rapidly growing community of Peel. The Region of Peel is seeking a Medical Officer of Health to join their Health Services Leadership Team and contribute to the vision of Peel as a “community for life”.
Reporting to the Commissioner, Health Services, the Medical Officer of Health will be responsible for providing Public Health programs and services to the residents of Peel. This role has a dual reporting relationship and is accountable to the Board of Health on public health matters and to the Commissioner of Health on administrative matters. You will lead a team of Public Health professionals to protect the health interests of the public and ensure compliance to the Heath Protection & Promotion Act. The Medical Officer of Health will work in close partnership with the Commissioner of Health to collaborate and co-ordinate Public Health’s activities in an effective and efficient manner, in alignment with corporate direction.
The ideal candidate possesses significant leadership and management experience in health-related programs and service delivery. In addition to technical experience, you are passionate about health equity and committed to listening to the needs of the community to provide effective public health services. Your strong relationship-building skills contribute to developing effective partnerships and collaborations, while ensuring the administrative, financial, and organizational integrity of the department. Requirements include a Medical Degree with a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario from the CPSO with a FRCP designation, as well as a master’s in health sciences or Public Health.
