Public Works – Operations Support
Regular Full-Time
Reporting to the Supervisor in Environmental Education you will develop and implement education and outreach initiatives to support ongoing programs of the Region of Peel’s Public Works Department as identified in the Environmental Education Strategy. This will be done by maintaining working relationships with internal and external partners to identify focused needs and program synergies. With a focus on waste management, evaluate industry best practices and incorporate results into relevant education and outreach initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Provide specialized guidance and advice in the development, implementation and evaluation of new Public Works outreach and education initiatives and materials
Compile, analyze, and monitor data to assess the performance and effectiveness of waste management education programs and make programming recommendations
Provide specialized guidance and advice in the development, implementation and evaluation of current and new waste management programs including school waste workshops, virtual tours, online resources, and residential outreach and education
Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to support the goals of the Environmental Education Strategy
Provide training and guidance to co-op students to assist with program development and implementation
Support other Environmental Education team initiatives and participate in community outreach and special events such as fairs, home shows, and workshops
Represent the Region on various internal and external committees including the Peel Children’s Water Festival
Work with Communication Services to co-ordinate the design and creation of environmental education related resources and materials
Qualifications:
University degree or technical diploma with relevant studies in science, environment, engineering or related field, with at least three years of combined relevant experience
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
Knowledge of water, wastewater, waste management and transportation programs
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated organizational skills
Experience coordinating and overseeing projects or programs
Proven customer service and public relations skills
Strong research and report writing skills
Knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum Expectations and/or experience instructing in a classroom setting would be an asset
Strong computer skills, utilizing MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently
Class “G” license in good standing
Ability to obtain a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check to the satisfaction of the Region
Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
