Public Works – Water & Wastewater

CUPE LOCAL 966- Public Works
Under general supervision, performs manual and equipment operating duties in the performance of various Public Works construction, maintenance or operational functions
Responsibilities:
Maintains, operates and inspects water distribution and wastewater collection system assets
Performs water quality and system tests and takes corrective actions
Ensures all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations
Performs hand excavation, backfilling, restoration works, concrete work and pipe laying
Cleans sewer mains, laterals and manholes of debris and sediment
Maintains a neat appearance and performs duties in a way which conveys a “positive image’ of the Region
Qualifications:
Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum one (1) year of job related experience
Minimum acceptable MOE certification is Water Distribution Class 1 and Water Treatment Operator-In-Training (OIT) certificates with a preference for progressive advancement of certification to the subsystem class level
Meter Installers Certificate preferred
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports
Must have a working knowledge of computers
Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulation as it applies to compliance
Must successfully complete mandatory renewal training
Requirement to obtain Meter Installers Certificate
Physically able to perform requirements of the job
Possess a Class “GZ” license in good standing with preference for “DZ”
Must be willing and available to work independently on shifts
Testing may be required
Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are currently in the bargaining unit

Hours: 40 hours per week

The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to the Ontario Human Rights Code. If you are not fully vaccinated, a documented medical reason provided by a physician or registered nurse and time period for the medical reason may be accepted.
