RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary
This job posting is for a Research Assistant or Associate at Dr. Donald Vinh’s Laboratory, Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. The “Centre of Excellence for Genetic Research in Infection and Immunity” is focused on identifying and characterizing genetic immunodeficiencies that confer susceptibility to infectious diseases in humans, and more specifically on the identification of new causal genes and on understanding their pathophysiology using cell and molecular biology. This unique research is based on studies of actual patients evaluated in Dr. Vinh’s clinic.
General Duties
The research assistant or associate MUST have experience with the following activities:
- Isolate cells (PBMC, neutrophils) from human blood,
- Capacity to establish cell lines,
- Conduct cell culture experiments,
- Experience with the following molecular biology techniques: cellular mRNA and protein isolation, PCR, cell stimulation experiments, cytokine measurements, gene expression (real-time PCR) analysis, Western blot, etc.
- Participate in the day-to-day management of the laboratory, including ordering materials and reagents, support for the supervision of students, etc.
- Perform flow cytometry, autonomous experience with flow cytometry is strongly desired,
- Experience with transfection studies, DNA mutagenesis and vector construction is strongly desired.

Education / Experience
- Education: Master’s Degree
Other education considered an asset for this position: An academic background with a M.Sc. (for Research Assistant) or Ph.D. (for Research Associate) is a requirement.
- Work Experience: The candidate should have a strong background with several years’ experience that includes experience with tissue culture, molecular biology, and genetic manipulation.

Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
