Rio Tinto Looking for Heavy Equipment Operators – Process Plant ROM at Yellowknife, NT Full Time

We are currently accepting applications for Heavy Equipment Operators to fill current assignments within the Process Plant team. This position is responsible for the operation and monitoring of the equipment within their designated area, while ensuring that safety is maintained and that production objectives are met.

Located at the Lac de Gras Mine site, you will be working on a 2 weeks on / 2weeks off rotation (alternating night shift and day shift) rotational schedule on a 12 hours per shift day.

Reporting to the Process Plant Supervisor and working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:

Completing regular and assigned Process Plant ROM (Run-of-Mine) heavy equipment operation duties in designated areas within the Diavik mine site;

Operating and monitoring mobile equipment according to the specific operating practices for WA900 Loader or Excavator in order to keep efficient and steady state ore supply to the Process Plant;

Performing routine daily inspections of equipment and conduct daily start-up, shut-down checks of the assigned Heavy Equipment;

Recognizing maintenance concerns on equipment and alert maintenance personnel to ensure a steady state of operation that will maximize equipment production;

Perform safety requirements as per company standards, including the completion of Job Hazard Analysis;

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Strong safety mindset;

Minimum 2 years’ as heavy equipment operator;

Minimum 1-year experience operating in mining environment, preferably surface operations;

Efficiently operate Heavy Equipment such as 385 CAT Excavator, 470 Hitachi Excavator, Komatsu WA900 Loader

Solid proficiency in reading and understanding manuals and written instructions;

Ability to learn and understand technical procedures and information quickly;

Ability to work in high stress situations and resolve issues;

Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
