Robert Half has partnered up with an industry leader in the construction, forestry, mining & utilities sector to source their next Accounts Payable Manager. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounts Payable Manager is a key member of the Finance team. The position is responsible for overseeing department activities to ensure that they are completed accurately and on time and driving process improvements. The AP Manager, with 2 direct reports and 17 indirect reports is responsible for training, motivating and evaluating the accounts payable team.
Responsibilities:
– Manages and supervises the accounts payable department, ensuring to monitor efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Fosters a strong team environment and drives a customer first mentality in the Accounts Payable function.
– Ensure vendors are paid timely and accurately, and internal and external inquiries are answered timely and accurately. Oversee all payment transactions (EFT, wires, paper checks, etc.)
– Maintain complete and accurate vendor records and general ledgers. Assist with Month End close procedures as required.
– Ensure the Accounts Payable department is adhering to policies and standard operating procedures. Takes a direct interest to establish and maintain internal controls and procedures to protect the assets of the company.
– Continually seek to improve the department to close any gaps, and increase efficiency and effectiveness with recommendation, implementation, and maintenance of process improvements. Keep abreast of best practices in Accounts Payable.
– Builds solid relationships across all units at various levels with proactive communication and an understanding of their needs
– Provide reports to key stakeholders as requested.
– Mentorship of Accounts Payable Supervisor and Accounts Payable Team Lead. Drive training, coaching and development of the department.
– Undergraduate degree (ideally business, finance, or accounting)
– Strong understanding of financial controls in the accounts payable cycle
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with vendors and team members across the organization, across all levels.
– Ability to influence operations functions/managers with effective communication, collaboration, and relationship building skills
– Effective leadership skills to motivate, manage, engage, train, and develop staff and create positive team environment
– Well planned, organized with keen attention to detail.
– Substantial ERP AP and Purchasing modules experience.
– Must have worked in a high invoice volume environment (15K+ invoices/month)
– 5+ years of transferable experience
